Monitoring the changes in occurrence and abundance of wildlife communities over time is important for more effective targeted management understanding long-term due to local global environmental influences. In this study, we report on first systematic bird survey carried out Edgbaston Reserve, a protected area boundary tropical semi-arid bioregions north-central Queensland. We systematically sampled fauna at 24 sites five surveys between 2018 2020, using combination 2-ha searches timed nocturnal censuses. examined variation composition species across multivariate, regression non-parametric analyses. A total 6201 records comprising 123 was collected. Forty-six exhibited significant six habitat types (Ironbark, Gidgee Escarpment woodlands, Springs, Spinifex grasslands Mitchell Grass Downs). Species also varied significantly habitats surveys, there were clear differences grass compared with those woodlands. Twenty recorded only one 17 higher some years, associated an influx granivores nomadic migratory species. The location property woodlands arid that contain springs, contrasting mix eastern- western-distributed birds, suggests continued monitoring avifauna provides opportunity investigate trends, linked change annual management, assist preservation community situated edge two bioregions.

Abstract Passive acoustic recorders have emerged as powerful tools for ecological monitoring. However, effective monitoring is not simply an act of recording sounds. To meaning conservation and management, needs to be properly planned analyzed yield high quality information. Here, we provide a set considerations the design program. We argue that such program, has following attributes: (1) established appropriate partnerships with landowners, Traditional Owners, researchers, or other relevant stakeholders, (2) based on clear objectives questions, (3) explicit in its target sound signals, (4) considered in‐field sensor placement range factors, including experimental design, statistical power, background noise, potential impacts human privacy animal disturbance, (5) justified schedule periodicity, (6) methods process data line objectives, (7) protocols permanent storage access. Long-term ecological monitoring is crucial to understanding the complex dynamics of ecosystems, communities, and populations. Despite this, data are lacking or rare for vast majority biodiversity. Here we report results 19 years (2003–2022) continuous annual reptile species at Booderee National Park (BNP) on east coast south-eastern Australia. Quantifying temporal changes in species occurrence has been a key part of ecology since its inception. We quantified multidecadal site occupancy trajectories for 18 bird four independent long-term, large-scale studies (571 sites, ~1000 km latitude) Australia. found evidence year × long-term study interaction the best-fitting models 14 analysed, with differences same multiple consistent non-stationarity. Non-stationarity patterns were not related to distance from niche centroid; locations further their centroid did demonstrate differing those closer centroid.
