A seasonal study was conducted to assess the levels, sources, and potential ecological risks of heavy metals (HM) in coastal sediments along Giresun Coast, located on southeast coast Black Sea. The mean concentrations HMs as mg/kg were ranked Fe (27646.37) > Al (27348.55) Mn (571.87) Zn (94.16) Cr (60.64) Cu (45.66) Pb (41.37) Ni (27.29) Co (14.47) As (7.36) Cd (0.20), respectively. At all stations through year, Al, Cr, Mn, Fe, Co, “the minimum enrichment” class evaluated by enrichment factor (EF). assessed contamination (CF), HM levels except Pb, “low” or “moderately polluted” at seasons. With exception seasons pointed out “low risk” according risk index (Eri). According sediment quality guidelines, Ni, observed pose a high habitat. combined assessment indices low moderate risk. concluded that region is subject anthropogenic disturbances aquatic environment.

Heavy metal pollution in urban rivers corresponds to anthropogenic impacts. Considering the environmental importance of Winongo River for domestic use, agriculture, and fisheries, a comprehensive study heavy contamination this river needs be conducted. This research focused on assessment water sediment using enrichment factor (EF), geo-accumulation index (Igeo), Ecological Risk Index (Er), Potential ecological risk (RI). Results showed that concentrations metals Pb, Cu, Cd, Al, Fe samples exceeded thresholds. Based EF, Igeo, Er assessment, level by Cr, Cd was found low, Al moderate high. The mean values descending order are as follows > Pb Cu Cr (1,445, 2692.42, 0.17, 0.048, 0.016, 0 mg/kg) respectively. Meanwhile, were (1.208), (0.857), (0.155), (0.018), (0.009), (0 mg/L) sources identified such city effluent, road, mechanic workshops. from exhibit strong correlation (r = 0.688). suggests possibly comes same originating earth materials. In general, potential River, midstream area had higher levels than downstream upstream areas (pollution upstream). roads, For reason, findings expected provide scientific basis control.
