Abstract Among Neotropical freshwater ecoregions, the Mid-Northeastern Caatinga (MNCE) is a fish knowledge gap. Its temporary drainages are receptors of São Francisco interbasin water transfer project (SFR-IWT) in Brazilian semiarid. We provide comprehensive baseline richness five SFR-IWT basins. Species richness, shared, endemic, threatened and non-native species were obtained using sampling, ichthyologic collections, literature online repositories (306 localities). In total 121, recorded, 111 them native, 16 (14.41%) listed for all Higher native (78, 70.27%) was recorded lower-middle stretch (SFRE), including 23 61 (54.95%) MNCE basins (13 endemic), 28 (25.23%) shared between both ecoregions. MNCE, 50 Jaguaribe (JAG), 39 Piranhas-Açu, 36 Paraíba do Norte, 32 Apodi-Mossoró (APO). The number SFRE each receptor basin varied from 24 (23.08%, JAG) to 20 (22.22%, APO). JAG contains 81.97% basins’ species. higher endemism deserve special attention regarding ongoing hydrological changes. This study will help detect possible modifications ichthyofauna main drainages.

Abstract Projects on river basin integration are keen social-economical drivers in dry regions like the Brazilian semiarid, however, there concerning ecological impacts implied those projects. In a long-term analysis, ichthyofauna colonization and spread through East Axis of São Francisco River Integration Project (SFIP) was monitored to assess possible receiving Paraíba basin. The fish were collected semiannually (2012 2021) from 19 sites (SF) (PB) basins. A total 69 species recorded, with distinct assemblages between SF (n = 50), PB 35), SFIP artificial reservoirs 25). colonized by donor (SF). pioneer finding, Anchoviella vaillanti recorded for first time it is process establishment. two that reached canals (A. Moenkhausia costae) may be using their year-round reproduction wide diet successful colonize new environment. Since we detected potential reach became invasives, implementation barriers contain recommended.
