Introduction Freshwater ecosystems are susceptible to invasion by alien macrophytes due their connectivity and various plant dispersal vectors. These often experience anthropogenic nutrient enrichment, favouring invasive species that efficiently exploit these resources. Propagule pressure (reflecting the quantity of introduced individuals) habitat invasibility key determinants success. Moreover, enemy release hypothesis predicts escape from natural enemies, such as herbivores, allows invest more resources growth reproduction rather than defense, enhancing potential. Yet, combined impact propagule pressure, herbivory, enrichment on competitive dynamics between native macrophyte communities is not well understood a paucity studies. Methods We conducted full factorial mesocosm experiment explore individual effects levels, competition success Myriophyllum aquaticum into community comprising Vallisneria natans, Hydrilla verticillata , spicatum . This setup included varying M. densities (low vs. high, simulating low high pressures), two levels herbivory snail Lymnaea stagnalis (herbivory vs no-herbivory), conditions high). was also grown separately at both without macrophytes. Results The produced highest shoot total biomass when simultaneously subjected high-density intraspecific competition, no low-nutrient availability treatments. significantly reduced in nutrient-rich conditions, but this effect observed nutrient-poor conditions. Discussion findings indicate has adaptive traits enabling it flourish absence (supporting hypothesis) challenging environments intense availability. Additionally, demonstrate present large numbers, can inhibit communities, particularly environments. Consequently, reducing could help control its spread mitigate ecological impact. Overall, emphasize impacts plants vary across different shaped interplay biotic abiotic factors.

Abstract Freshwater biodiversity, from fish to frogs and microbes macrophytes, provides a vast array of services people. Mounting concerns focus on the accelerating pace biodiversity loss declining ecological function within freshwater ecosystems that continue threaten these natural benefits. Here, we catalog nine fundamental ecosystem biotic components indigenous provide people, organized into three categories: material (food; health genetic resources; goods), non‐material (culture; education science; recreation), regulating (catchment integrity; climate regulation; water purification nutrient cycling). If is protected, conserved, restored in an integrated manner, as well more broadly appreciated by humanity, it will contribute human well‐being our sustainable future via this wide range associated nature‐based solutions future. The use of floating photovoltaic systems in freshwater and marine environments is forecast to increase dramatically worldwide within the next decade response demands for accelerated decarbonisation global economy whilst avoiding competition land, particularly near population centres. potential environmental impacts this expanding, novel technology are gradually becoming apparent warrant consideration. This study reviews evaluates various introducing arrays into aquatic (freshwater marine) ecosystems based on current state known similar industries. Environmental fall several categories including shading, hydrodynamics water-atmosphere exchange, energy emissions, benthic communities, mobile species. social acceptability ability long-term coexistence with other activities interests also discussed. Floating have an important role play decarbonisation, but close collaboration between stakeholders will be required better understand new technology. Aquatic plants, seagrasses, macrophytes, mangroves, and riparian vegetation are responsible for some of the most important ecosystem services provided on Earth. Given their role in trapping plastics along rivers, we propose a new service plastic entrapment by global plants. Although research started recently to study plastics, little is known about patterns retention remobilization through different habitats. those gaps, synthesize data plants providing conceptual model describe processes vegetation.
