Early adolescence is a dynamic period of social and cortical development amidst rapid hormonal puberty changes. We examined how differences changes in positive experiences thickness co-develop from age 9-11 11-13 years the ABCD cohort (N~12,000). used Bivariate Latent Change Score Models to capture (modelling mean whole-brain thickness) caregiver monitoring, family cohesion, prosocial behaviour, number friends, school engagement, involvement, neighborhood safety). found that decreased between (baseline) (2-year-follow-up), indicating were perceived as less over time. evidence for correlated change, such greater reduction was associated with (est=5.23, SE=1.31, p<.001, standardized coefficient=.08), which did not differ males females early late stages. mixed sex-specific relationships stage experiences. The supports transactional model development, change together throughout adolescence. findings also highlight importance supporting youth through transitions.

Abstract Self-compassion is assumed to have a protective role in the etiology of emotional problems adolescents. This assumption primarily based on correlational data revealing negative correlations between total score Self-Compassion Scale (SCS) and symptom measures anxiety depression. Recently, however, SCS has been criticized because this scale not only consists items measuring compassionate self-responding (i.e., self-kindness, common humanity, mindfulness), but also includes ‘reversed’ uncompassionate self-criticism, isolation, overidentification), which would undermine validity as an index construct. The present article used two methods demonstrate that (positive) (negative) differential effects youths. In first part, meta-analysis 16 relevant studies demonstrated modest effect positive self-compassion anxiety/depression large (and significantly stronger) vulnerability such symptoms. second network analyses were conducted three previously collected sets these again showed more closely connected young people’s symptoms depression than self-compassion. It argued observed should be discarded subversive fallacy, rather offer opportunity for studying adolescents’ psychopathology sophisticated way, taking into account both protection vulnerability.

Abstract Background Adverse experiences – such as abuse and neglect occurring during childhood adolescence have been found to predict poorer mental cognitive health. Social adversities, including bullying social exclusion, are likely be particularly salient adolescence. However, our understanding of how adversities co‐occur in they functioning is limited. Methods We used latent profile analysis investigate adolescents' regressions identify their relationship cognition later development. Data was analysed from UKHLS ( N = 493, aged 14–16 years, preregistered analysis) ALSPAC 14,856, 12–22 replication analysis). Results Adolescents clustered into four profiles both cohorts: low adversity, peer difficulties, sibling poly‐adversity. that 17%–22% participants fell the poly‐adversity reported experiencing several adversities. In ALSPAC, but not UKHLS, differed between adversity (working memory: F (3, 3773) 8.07, p < 0.001; fluid reasoning: 5258) 3.36, 0.018; verbal fluency: 5261) 6.24, 0.001). After controlling for sex, adolescents scored significantly higher on working memory task than those profile, effect sizes were small. Conclusion These findings implications experiences. To understand individual differences lifespan outcomes, it essential capture a broad spectrum interactions, bullying, school issues.

Introduction provides an overview from perspective, emphasis key concepts recent progress spanning prenatal period through to adolescence intergenerational pathways. Models emphasize multi-dimensional nature adversity importance timing risk protective pathways, have played driving role progress. This study aimed to investigate alternative approaches a cumulative risk score in the relationship between adverse childhood experiences (ACEs) and crime. Using data from 1993 Pelotas (Brazil) Birth Cohort (n=3,236), we measured 12 ACEs up 15 years, past-year violent non-violent crime at 22 years. We used four analytical approaches: single adversities, risk, latent class analysis, network analysis. When examined individually, physical abuse, emotional domestic violence were associated with both outcomes, whereas maternal mental illness discrimination only, parental divorce poverty only. There was effect of on The child maltreatment household challenges outcomes; exposure social risks In models, showed conditional associations illness, divorce. Although did associate crime, some individual combinations particularly strong robust effects, which not captured by score. Many are closely connected and/or cluster together, usefulness ACE needs be further evaluated.
