Heavy metals represent a significant contributor to water pollution, posing serious environmental and health risks due human activities industrialization. The release of heavy metal contaminants into sources has spurred extensive research wastewater treatment methods, including precipitation, evaporation, ion exchange, membrane processes, electroplating. However, these conventional techniques often prove costly, limited in effectiveness, may inadvertently exacerbate pollution concerns. This review underscores biosorption as highly promising alternative for effectively removing harmful ions from sources. Biosorption, physical technique, capitalizes on mechanisms such surface complexation, leveraging more economical biological materials biosorbents. Microorganisms, encompassing bacteria, fungi, algae, plant products, emerge pivotal agents biosorption, offering sustainable cost-effective approach. There is growing interest harnessing local microbiota aiming mitigate contamination without adverse impacts. Notably, both living deceased fungal biomass have garnered attention adsorbents eliminating solutions. behavior presents numerous advantages, warranting further fully exploit its potential endeavors.

Manganese oxides reportedly exhibit pronounced adsorption capacities for numerous heavy-metal ions owing to their unique structural properties. Herein, a biogenic manganese oxide (BMO) composite was developed and used remove Ni from Ni2+-containing electroplating wastewater. The formation of BMO the micro-/nanoscale fine microstructure were characterized via scanning/high-resolution transmission electron microscopies X-ray diffraction assays. Under optimized conditions, with an temperature 50 °C, pH 6, showed 100% removal efficiency within rapid equilibrium reaction time 20 min towards initial Ni2+ concentration 10 mg L−1 remarkable capacity 416.2 g−1 600 in Ni-electroplating pseudo-second-order equation applicable sorption data at low concentrations 10–50 over course. Moreover, Freundlich isotherm models fitted biosorption well. Fourier-transform infrared spectroscopic analysis validated that closely associated groups. In five continuous cycles adsorption/desorption, exhibited high recovery capacities, thereby showing efficient performance potential treating industrial

This study addresses the critical issue of copper removal from wastewater due to environmental and health concerns. Choosing pandan leaves as a source cellulose was deliberate decision their abundant availability in nature minimal ecological footprint. Through utilization these properties, this synthesized nanocellulose with enhanced adsorption capabilities by employing chemical pretreatments, sulfuric acid hydrolysis, acrylamide grafting aid ceric ammonium nitrate (CAN) an initiator. In order thoroughly evaluate material, X-Ray diffractometer (XRD) Fourier transform infrared (FTIR) spectroscopy were used. These characterization methods revealed insights into morphology, functionality, crystallinity nanocellulose. The copper(II) ions is investigated atomic absorption spectrometer (AAS), focusing on three important factors: pH variation, initial concentration, adsorbent dosage, which are carefully examined. Grafted demonstrates superior performance, achieving over 85% efficiency. Optimal Cu(II) conditions identified at 6, metal ion concentration 30 ppm dose 2.2 g/L. not only concern treatment, but also explores potential leaf-derived sustainable solution for heavy removal.

Abstract This study involved the synthesis of a novel composite gel consisting chitosan modified diatomite (DE/CS), sodium alginate (SA), and polyethyleneimine (PEI) (DE/CS-PEI@SA) using ion crosslinking method. The micro characteristics gels were examined through scanning electron microscopy, X-ray diffraction, differential calorimetry/thermal gravimetric analysis, Brunauer-Emmett-Teller systems. Their adsorption properties mechanisms towards copper Cu(II) lead Pb(II) ions investigated infrared, photoelectron spectroscopy, energy dispersive Zeta potential analyses. DE/CS-PEI@SA exhibit numerous uniform folds on its surface, boasting specific surface area 18.96 m2/g pore size ranging from 1.5 to 80.0 nm, demonstrating robust thermal stability pre- post- adsorption. Notably, these demonstrate impressive capacities for (174.39 mg/g) (295.04 mg/g), respectively. integration DE/CS PEI within contributes complex structure multitude accessible. behavior is accurately characterized by pseudo-second-order kinetic model Langmuir model. predominant mechanism involves single-molecule chemisorption, involving coordination adsorption, exchange, electrostatic attraction. demonstrates notable efficiency in cost-effectiveness, ease separation, rendering it viable option wastewater treatment applications.
