ABSTRACT Synthetic plasticizers are essential additives widely used in polymer‐based products such as food packaging, toys and medical devices. Despite their functional properties, they present significant environmental human health risks due to toxicity migration behaviour. Growing awareness of these adverse effects has driven interest the development bio‐based derived from natural resources. In recent years, have emerged promising alternatives, offering advantages low toxicity, biodegradability reduced migration. Their application is particularly relevant packaging industry, where transition towards sustainable materials gained great interest, with growing use biopolymers starch, poly(lactic acid) (PLA), chitosan gelatin.
