Summary Forests of urban/suburban areas are being increasingly restored, but before/after-control/impact studies addressing effects on biodiversity in peri-urban forest restorations virtually lacking. Using a (BACI) design, we explored the birds (commonly used as indicators for restoration impacts) small-scale interventions 2019 targeting residual forests north Milan, largest Italian conurbation, with trees and shrub planting around existing patches or formerly cultivated areas. Birds were surveyed 2018, 2019, 2021, at 20 intervention control sites. We evaluated short-term by analysing changes avian communities (i.e. richness, richness abundance specialists, single species’ abundance), considering effect year before/during/after intervention). Species breeding was largely unaffected on-going interventions, while it positively related to concluded restoration. The five individual species varied according restoration: had positive two species, Common Blackbird Turdus merula Hooded Crow Corvus corone cornix , negative Barn Swallow Hirundo rustica affected again, specialist Marsh Tit Poecile palustris. Even may provide tangible benefits short term: could contribute conservation.

Changes in land use and cover (LULC) promote regional carbon storage capacity or trigger depletion, which turn exhibited significant impact on global climate change. Understanding the impacts of LULC changes coastal areas plays a critical role conservation ecosystems sustainable socio-economic development. The present study acted area Shandong Province as an example to analyze relationship between combined with Integrated Valuation Ecosystem Services Tradeoffs (InVEST) Patch-generating Land Use Simulation (PLUS) model. We further predicted variation through change types under three scenarios 2030. Our results showed that cropland (which decreased by 9.41%) built-up increased 7.66%) underwent most over past 20 years, while forest, grassland, wetland, water bare less changes. Avian species provide important ecosystem services such as nutrient cycling, seed dispersal, meat provision, pest control, scavenging, and pollination. Currently, the populations of avian pollinators are declining due to climate change human impact, it is crucial identify species-rich areas for their conservation. Sunbirds (Nectariniidae) vertebrate with a wide distribution that include Africa, Asia Australasia. Here, we assembled records sunbird applied maximum entropy approach model habitat suitability in world. We also quantified sunbirds composition similarity among terrestrial biomes. found reached peak Southeast Asia, western central parts African continent. Sunbird richness was highest Tropical Subtropical Moist Broadleaf Forests biome. Solar Radiation Index (SRI), precipitation warmest quarter, footprint index were most predictors global suitability. Geographic regions identified have high priority conservation this unique group ecological they provide.

Neighborhood services, property attributes, and their associated amenities have positive impacts on land values. This impact is estimated by the hedonic pricing model, which considered an effective method used in previous studies for such evaluations. The study uses Geographical Information Science digitizing point of interest area spatial modeling data collection points multi-linear regression as a statistical analysis measurements. measurements include structural, locational, environmental, community attributes at given time space walkable distance from neighborhood measuring proximity. results are represented through summary expresses every individual variable entire value property, appropriateness shown values R, R2, adjusted R2. result concluded that characteristics varied location to location, why it difficult measure exact market values, particularly areas lack urban planning heterogeneous data. The construction of ecological networks within the context urbanization is an effective approach to cope with challenges urban biodiversity decline, representing a crucial goal in planning and development. However, existing studies often overlook richness uniqueness species communities by homogenizing traits same class. This study proposes framework for constructing optimizing focused on differential conservation By classifying birds into three groups (specialists water, forest or areas) based their requirements tolerance, we constructed network tailored distinct migratory dispersal patterns. We then identified strategic areas including pinch points, barriers, breakpoints specific each bird group. Our findings reveal notable variations suitable habitat distribution among different environments. Corridor layouts varied according preferences Despite these differences, built-up persist as central hubs habitats 75% species, peripheral mountain-plain transition constituting 63% corridors. emphasizes critical role maintaining connectivity. Prioritizing connectivity between distant natural spaces imperative. innovatively classifies constructs identify diverse species-specific attributes, providing valuable spatial information land guiding solutions enhance target species. While primary focus Beijing, our broadly applicable global management green under challenges. Overall, this offers innovative insights development serves decision support prioritizing actions.

Many wild species occur in cities, yet little known on the dynamics urban assemblages due species' extinction and colonization that may response rapidly evolving conditions within areas. Namely, species’ ability spread areas, besides habitat preferences, likely shape fate once they city. Here we use long-term dataset mammals occurring one largest most ancient Europe assess whether how spatial association with specific habitats drive probability local cities. Abstract The replacement of natural areas due to urbanisation represents a major threat wildlife. Wild species may be classified according their response towards urban areas. Such responses lead persistence (exploiters and tolerant) or local extinction (avoiders) within cities, which in turn contributes shaping the assemblages found therein, usually specific sets ecological morphological traits. Here, we focus on Orthoptera as model group test hypotheses relationships between species' traits environments, using city Rome, Italy, study area. By compiling comparing checklists for two distinct time frames, assessed assemblage variation across last three decades revealed that is trait‐biased. Species with low mobility fertility, narrower—more specialised—climatic niches showed higher probability extinction. Our results point at both climate land use changes potentially drivers orthopterans' areas, suggesting strategies increase habitat preservation connectivity, mitigate climate‐change induced events, prove effective sustaining richer insect communities

Climate adaptation corridors are widely recognized as important for promoting biodiversity resilience under climate change. Central America is part of the Mesoamerican hotspot, but there have been no regional-scale analyses potential in America. We identified 2375 throughout that link lowland protected areas (≤ 500 m) with intact, high-elevation forests (≥ 1500 represent change refugia. Whereas we found all American countries, Panama, Belize, and Honduras were most (medians = 64%, 49%, 47%, respectively) El Salvador least (median 10%). also developed a corridor priority index based on ecological characteristics status their associated start end points. Compared to low- medium-priority corridors, high-priority (n 160; top 7% corridors) generally more protected, forested, distributed across wider elevational gradients Key Biodiversity Areas, linked larger target larger, spanned gradients. For example, median values, 9% overlapped 2–3 Areas than corridors. Although targets considerably 695 vs. 142 m, thus may be likely support refugia, they smaller 11 50 km 2 mostly unprotected 4% protection).
