Abstract The climate crisis seriously threatens Central European forests and their ecosystem functions. There are indications that old-growth relatively resilient efficient in micro-climatic regulation during extreme climatic conditions. This study evaluates five well-protected old beech Germany, part of a UNESCO World Heritage Site. We examined temperature dynamics vitality core, buffer, border zones hot days from 2017 to 2023, using Landsat 8 9 imageries assess Land Surface Temperature (LST) Normalized Difference Vegetation Index (NDVI), alongside on-site Air (AT) measurements. Our findings reveal all were impacted by recent heat events, with core remaining cooler more vital, followed buffer zones. Temperature-regulating patterns varied landscape characteristics the surrounding matrixes. observed site-dependent cooling effect forest interior increased higher LST. highlights value recommends increasing effective protection around mature forests, establishing corridors between isolated patches, creating mosaics managed landscapes include unmanaged areas capable developing into ecosystems.

The Carabid beetles are a key group for assessing ecological characteristics of natural environments because they play role as bioindicator organisms suitable both theoretical and applied studies. Moreover, one the few Coleoptera orders with numerous quantitative studies conducted using consistent methodologies in Dolomite (Eastern Italian Alps). In this paper, semi-natural habitats located at mid- high-altitude Southern Dolomites were studied, specifically populations carabids living alpine grasslands active scree-slopes from 1300 m a.s.l. to 2160 This dataset advances initiative adopting formal structure carabid beetle datasets promotes open access such data. publication targets historical data published grey literature, written or technical reports not available online. Darwin Core standard was used create tables have been made through GBIF portal (the Global Biodiversity Information Facility). ensures adhere FAIR principles (Findable, Accessible, Interoperable, Reusable), aligning current best practices scientific research.
