This comprehensive review investigates the pivotal role of reactive oxygen species (ROS) in cataract formation and evaluates potential antioxidant therapies mitigating this ocular condition. By elucidating mechanisms oxidative stress, article examines how ROS contribute to deterioration lens proteins lipids, leading characteristic aggregation, cross-linking, light scattering observed cataracts. The provides a thorough assessment various strategies aimed at preventing managing cataracts, such as dietary antioxidants (i.e., vitamins C E, lutein, zeaxanthin), well pharmacological agents with antioxidative properties. Furthermore, explores innovative therapeutic approaches, including gene therapy nanotechnology-based delivery systems, designed bolster defenses tissues. Concluding critical analysis current research, offers evidence-based recommendations for optimizing therapies. literature on use prevent is sparse. There lack conclusions; further clinical studies are needed endorse patients cataractogenesis. However, personalized treatment plans considering individual patient factors disease stages can be applied. serves valuable resource, providing insights into alleviate burden

Introduction Myopia is a refractive error where distant objects are not clearly seen and appear blurred. Goal of this study was to evaluate long-term effectiveness Repeated Low-Level Red Light (RLRL) therapy for children with myopia, which primarily focused on Axial length (AL) Spherical Equivalent Refraction (SER) as primary endpoints. Methods The research compared outcomes between RLRL treatment Single Vision Spectacles (SVS) childhood myopia management. We performed systematic literature search in the PubMed, Embase Cochrane databases using “Myopia” “ “. Mean differences (MD) were estimated effects therapies measured. Publication bias heterogeneity analysis carried out by Inverted Precision Effect Test-Precision Estimate Standard Error (PET-PEESE) (and subsequent Search Sequential Analysis) Tau test. Bayesian meta-analysis Jaffrey Amazing Statistical Package (JASP). Results This comprised 1,714 participants: 824 890 SVS group. Pooled effect size AL reduction 0.953 ± 0.294, (95% credible interval (CI) 0.775 0.980). SER 1.521 0.662 CI 0.102 2.736). PET-PEESE revealed no significant publication ( p-value 0.407). Random models employed presence (3.9 5.7 AL; SER), alongside degree variation (0.828 & 1.665) (τ), estimates between-study variance. Conclusion Long-term observations indicate that significantly influences management, leading considerable reductions both SER. Additional essential investigate potential rebound effects.

Metabolic syndrome (MetS)-a cluster of conditions including obesity, hypertension, dyslipidemia, and insulin resistance-is increasingly recognized as a key risk factor for the development various eye diseases. The metabolic dysfunctions associated with this contribute to vascular neurodegenerative damage within eye, influencing disease onset progression. Understanding these links highlights importance early diagnosis management prevent vision loss improve ocular health outcomes. This review explores intricate interplay between syndrome, chronic low-grade inflammation, diseases such diabetic retinopathy, age-related macular degeneration, glaucoma, dry syndrome. It how inflammatory mediators, oxidative damage, dysregulation converge compromise structures, retina, optic nerve, surface. We discuss molecular cellular mechanisms underpinning associations examine evidence from clinical experimental studies. Given rising global prevalence addressing connection is crucial improving overall patient outcomes quality life. Future research should focus on delineating precise linking well exploring targeted interventions that address both health.

Abstract Posterior uveitis is a leading cause of vision impairment and blindness globally due to its detrimental effects on the choroid retina. The condition worsened by oxidative stress, which heightens inflammation perpetuates cycle damage that current treatments only temporarily relieve. To address this, novel treatment involving in situ crystallization ultrasmall cerium oxide nanoparticles (≈3 nm) mesenchymal stem cell (MSC) extracellular vesicles (EVs) for management primed mycobacterial (PMU) developed. This nanohybrid leverages individual synergistic components comprehensive therapeutic approach. act as nanozyme reduce scavenge excessive reactive oxygen species (ROS), while MSC EVs, with their biocompatibility, modulate inflammatory infiltration alleviate tissue damage. system offers promising new strategy ocular diseases characterized stress inflammation.

Purpose: This study aims to investigate the effect of quercetin (QUE) on scleral remodeling by inhibiting PERK-EIF2α signaling pathway and evaluate its potential role in slowing myopia. Methods: Lens-induced myopia (LIM) guinea pigs were obtained treated with QUE. After 4 6 weeks treatments, ocular biological measurements conducted. Hematoxylin eosin (H&E) staining was used observe changes morphology thickness, Masson examine collagen fiber arrangement. Quantitative PCR (qPCR) Western bolt utilized detect mRNA protein expression PERK, EIF2α, MMP-2, TIMP-2, I tissues. Calcium ion flow each group measured using noninvasive micro-test technology, reactive oxygen species levels detected cytometry. Results: Compared LIM group, showed that refractive errors axial length eyes significantly reduced + QUE (P < 0.01). H&E sclera thickened, dense, gap reduced. In MMP-2 decreased, whereas TIMP-2 increased. release (ROS) decreased. Conclusions: Quercetin ameliorates myopic pathway, thereby alleviating progression These findings provide new experimental evidence for application prevention treatment.
