The purpose of this study was to ascertain the correlation between COVID-19 infection and jaw osteonecrosis, along with identification risk factors that could be associated development condition. Another aim our is establish whether maxillofacial osteonecrosis an early or late complication seen in patients. This a retrospective conducted over period two years. Case records patients history severe COVID steroid treatment who later developed were evaluated. 13 age range from 8 years 70 identified. Osteonecrosis as 21 months after COVID-19. majority cases involved maxilla, one case bi-jaw involvement, presented isolated mandibular involvement. 6 diabetic 11 gave provocative dental like extraction. A triad post-COVID coagulopathy, administration, may contribute which without pre-existing systemic illness present

Mucormycosis (previously called zygomycosis) is a diverse group of increasingly recognized and frequently fatal mycotic diseases caused by members the class zygomycetes. around 80 times more common in India, compared to other developed countries, with frequency 0.14 cases per 1,000 population. The most frequent causative agent mucormycosis following genera from Order Mucorales Rhizopus, Mucor, Rhizomucor, Absidia, Apophysomyces, Cunninghamella, Saksenaea. major risk factors for development are diabetic ketoacidosis, deferoxamine treatment, cancer, solid organ or bone marrow transplantations, prolonged steroid use, extreme malnutrition, neutropenia. clinical forms rhino-orbital-cerebral, pulmonary, cutaneous, gastrointestinal. During second wave COVID-19, there was rapid increase severity than before. Amphotericin B currently found be an effective drug as it have broad-spectrum activity posaconazole used salvage therapy. Newer triazole isavuconazole also against mucormycosis. This study aimed review various studies on laboratory diagnosis treatment

Coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19), a characterized by severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2), has so far led to hundreds of millions infections and deaths. Fungal are known complicate COVID-19 patients associated with significant morbidity mortality. The aim this study was assess the incidence positive cultures for Candida spp. among hospitalized COVID-19, describe their characteristics identify factors overall mortality in patient population. Hospitalized isolation were retrospectively assessed clinical, laboratory microbiological evaluated. In total, 69 had culture spp., representing rate 4.5% all patients. Their median age 78 years (IQR 67–85 years) 44.9% male. who died older, more likely have diagnosis dementia, higher Charlson comorbidity index, score 4C score. identified multivariate logistic regression analysis model be independently most commonly species C. albicans, followed tropicalis glabrata common source urine, even though cases not true infection. Thus, may used from different body specimens risk stratification.

Abstract This study aimed to investigate the risk factors associated with intracranial involvement in COVID-19-associated mucormycosis (CAM) and develop a nomogram model for predicting of involvement, specific focus on perineural spread. An ambispective analysis was conducted 275 CAM patients who received comprehensive treatment. Univariable multivariable logistic regression analyses were performed identify independent factors, created based results analysis. The performance evaluated using receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curve, discriminatory capacity assessed area under curve (AUC). model's calibration through Hosmer Lemeshow test. In results, revealed that age (OR: 1.23, 95% CI 1.06–3.79), HbA1c 7.168, 1.724–25.788), spread 6.3, 1.281–19.874), disease stage CAM. developed demonstrated good discriminative an AUC 0.821 (95% 0.713–0.909) as indicated by ROC curve. showed well-calibrated, test yielded P-value 0.992, indicating fit model. conclusion, this found particularly exhibits spread, which is predictive factor involvement. A incorporating age, HbA1c, stage, successfully both in-patient out-patient settings.

COVID-19 causes an immunosuppressive condition and increases the risk of secondary infections, including fungal diseases such as mucormycosis (MM), so doctors should be aware possibility MM development in patients. Since no specific complaints or clinical symptoms exist disease is rare, especially developed countries with a moderate climate, it often impossible to diagnose at initial examination. Therefore, detection pathogen (mycelium zygomycetes) plays key role diagnosis. Over 70 % patients experience eye damages. According literature, most common manifestations thereof are blepharoptosis, ophthalmoplegia, exophthalmos, injection conjunctival chemosis. Quite often, have pains, orbital cellulitis phlegmon orbit, accompanied by decrease vision. For effective treatment this severe infectious complication, which takes form deep aggressive mycosis, interdisciplinary approach necessary. The complex make use antimycotic agents symptomatic therapy, and, essentially, surgical rehabilitation infection foci removing affected necrotic tissues. prognosis always very serious.

Mucormycosis is a fungal infection that common worldwide and has high mortality rate after COVID-19 disease. We present here the case of 55-yearold male who developed cerebral-pulmonary mucormycosis during voriconazole treatment. The patient presented with hemoptysis, had history uncontrolled diabetes due to high-dose longterm use corticosteroids for treatment COVID-19.He was treated medically liposomal amphotericin-B oral posaconazole, lung lesion subsequently removed surgically.
