Listening to speech in the presence of irrelevant sounds is ubiquitous modern world, but generally acknowledged be both effortful and unpleasant. Here we argue that this problem arises largely circumstances our human auditory system has not evolved accommodate. The soundscapes Anthropocene are frequently characterized by an overabundance sound sources, vast majority which functionally a given listener. listening such environments must solved optimized for task. Building on previous work linking attention incorporating active inference approach, answers these questions have implications just study audition. They also significant development broad awareness hearing aids cochlear implants, as well other technologies earbuds, immersive environments, systems human-machine interaction.

Abstract This paper explores the relationship between intuition and flow from a neurodynamics perspective. Flow represent two cognitive phenomena rooted in nonconscious information processing; however, there are clear differences both their phenomenal characteristics and, more broadly, contribution to action cognition. We propose, extrapolating dual processing theory, that serves as rapid, decision-making process, while facilitates this process action, achieving optimal control performance without [conscious] deliberation. By exploring these points of convergence intuition, we also attempt reconcile apparent paradox presence enhanced flow, which is state heightened control. To do so, utilize revised dual-processing framework, allows us productively align differentiate (including flow). Furthermore, draw on recent work examining an active inference Our account not only heightens understanding human cognition consciousness, but raises new questions for future research, aiming deepen our comprehension how can be harnessed elevate wellbeing.
