Abstract The present study used diffusive gradients in thin film (DGT) samplers deployed situ at a wastewater‐impacted site (Clarkboro Ferry) for 20 days to develop predictive model between time‐weighted mean concentrations of seven selected antipsychotic compounds water and those resident benthic invertebrates, specifically crayfish ( Faxonius virilis ). was further combined with desorption predict kinetics the sediment–water interface. Antipsychotic were mostly detected adult internal similar among targeted compounds, except lesser duloxetine. model, based on mass balance organic chemicals, uptake by organisms exhibited good agreement measured values R 2 = 0.53−0.88), venlafaxine 0.35). At interface, positive fluxes observed results from DGT‐induced sediments (DIFS) coupled equilibrium hydroxyl‐β‐cyclodextrin extraction indicated partial resupply aqueous phase, despite labile pool being relatively limited. affirm that DGT techniques can be as tool contamination invertebrates simulate ability contaminant sediments. Concentrations of Cu, Zn, Fe, Mn, Pb, Cd, As, and Hg were analyzed in the surface water muscle seven fish species (Carassius auratus, Cyprinus carpio, Hemiculter leucisculus, Pelteobagrus fulvidraco, Silurus meriaionalis, Ctenopharyngodon idellus, Parabramis pekinensis) from Wujiangdu reservoir, China. All metal concen-trations lower than grade one quality values. Mean concentrations decreased order: Zn (10.765 mg kg−1) > Fe (8.908 Mn (0.373 Cu (0.369 Pb (0.158 As (0.102 (0.042 Cd (0.024 kg−1). However, cancer risk (TR) greater 1.0 × 10−6, car-cinogenic caused by consumption could not be ignored. As we tread upon the ever-evolving canvas of our planet, one emerging concerns is silent threat heavy metal toxicity, a modern challenge that calls for both awareness and action. A single gram mercury which potent widespread aquatic contaminant, can contaminate 20-acre lake to extent fish from may become unsafe human consumption. On other hand, wide application HM-based chemical substances such as insecticides (market value 19.5 billion USD in year 2022 worldwide expected increase by 28 2027) significantly increasing. This alarming fact highlights far-reaching consequences pollution precious environments. The current review discusses global issues bioaccumulation metals (HMs) fish, related HM bioaccumulation, gathered data on concentrations various organs, research gaps primarily within India. critical approach made emphasizing intricate connection between food chain highlighting consequent transfer contaminants humans. scope this article also covers severity toxicity induced HMs humans fish. Overall, serves provide comprehensive overview concerning its impact health need extensive studies relevant areas.
