Abstract The floodplain area in the lower Yellow River plays function of flood detention and undertakes production living functions residents. Taking zonal Jiahetan-Gaocun section as an example, a two-dimensional flow mathematical model established by using MIKE 21. Through numerical simulation routing during operation, effect analysed, evaluation are carried out. results show that maximum absolute error water level calculated measuring station only 0.77 m. So, it reliable use 21 simulate process diversion with peak discharge 4000 m 3 /s 7000 basically reaches submerged after 100 h, 173.72 km 2 323.47 , respectively. Autumn grain, main source income for residents, severely lost shallow depth, so they both floods.
