This study investigates the synthesis of iron-based nanoparticles (Fe NPs) using pomegranate leaf extracts and their application in removing indole, a persistent organic pollutant commonly found wastewater. The physicochemical properties synthesized Fe NPs active biomolecules were comprehensively characterized. Scanning Electron Microscopy (SEM) Transmission (TEM) analyses revealed that exhibited quasi-spherical shapes, with sizes ranging from 75 to 105 nm. Energy-Dispersive X-ray Spectroscopy (EDS) confirmed homogeneous distribution elements, including C, O, Fe, S, on nanoparticle surfaces, weight percentages 43.59%, 42.95%, 12.58%, 0.88%, respectively. Fourier-transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR) identified key functional groups like −OH, −COOH, −C=O, which are essential for capping stabilization nanoparticles. Biomolecules such as ellagic acid (C14H6O8) gallic (C7H6O5) functioned reducing agents, improving dispersion preventing aggregation. quickly achieved 45.5% removal indole within just 20 min maintained stable efficiency approximately 51.4% after 90 min. performance was attributed synergetic interaction between nanoparticles, monolayer adsorption molecules NP surfaces likely setting an upper limit maximum achievable efficiency. It appears this can be effectively utilized synthesize novel eco-friendly approach, demonstrating promising potential rapid aqueous solutions.
