Rapid urbanization induces significant changes in land use, exerting a profound impact on regional habitat quality. Understanding the interconnectedness of and quality is crucial for safeguarding ecological environment promoting sustainable urban development. Cities along Yangtze River, as core region River Economic Belt China, serve typical critically important area to investigate dynamic response rapid urbanization. This study employs InVEST model entropy method assess spatiotemporal dynamics cities. Using coupling coordination degree model, it analyzes interplay between quality, elucidating patterns emphasizing need pertinent policy measures. Our findings reveal that from 1990 2019, levels surged by over six times, while consistently declined, reflecting 4.5% decrease. Notably, spatial variances were observed upstream, midstream, downstream segments river. Although an inverse relationship predominates, three cities demonstrated positive correlation. The also indicates stable increase evolving phase lag one synchronization followed lag. Among cities, Chongqing emerges exemplary coordinated development These insights provide theoretical foundation guidance enhancing strategies region.
