Abstract Effective genetic management of the ~700 aquatic species cultured globally should be addressed for aquaculture to make a significant contribution towards meeting UN's Sustainable Development Goals. This article aims identify current status and challenges relating farmed resources (AqGR) recommendations its improvement. The lack information on many is critical constraint there need characterize these develop systems tools monitor types used their wild counterparts. Risk assessment needed when introducing non‐native managing native including developed types; policies improved increased awareness training in risk are required. To increase uptake selective breeding aquaculture, development adoption better more sustainable business models, long‐term financial instruments such as public–private partnerships. Training technology transfer between sectors can have impact, especially lower‐value species. Nationally applicable regulations adapted AqGR become operational effectively implemented by countries.

Abstract The molecular basis of sex determination (SD), while being extensively studied in model organisms, remains poorly understood many animal groups. Bivalves, a diverse class molluscs with variety reproductive modes, represent an ideal yet challenging clade for investigating SD and the evolution sexual systems. However, absence comprehensive framework has limited progress this field, particularly regarding study sex-determination related genes (SRGs). In study, we performed genome-wide sequence evolutionary analysis Dmrt, Sox, Fox gene families more than 40 bivalve species. For first time, provide extensive phylogenetic-aware dataset these SRGs, find support to hypothesis that Dmrt-1L Sox-H may act as primary sex-determining genes, by showing their high levels diversity within genomic context. To validate our findings, same two well-characterized systems, mammals Drosophila . former, found male Sry exhibits pattern amino acid similar bivalves, consistent its role master regulator. contrast, no such was observed among fruit fly cascade, which is controlled chromosomic mechanism. Overall, findings highlight similarities some mammal possibly driven comparable architecture cascades. This work underscores once again importance employing comparative approach when understudied non-model

The zig-zag eel (Mastacembelus armatus) is a unique economic fish species in China and exhibits significant dimorphism of male female phenotypes. Cultivating all-male seedlings can significantly improve production efficiency. To investigate sex differentiation gonadal development M. armatus, high-throughput sequencing technology was used to analyze the transcriptomes gonads at different developmental stages, both before after differentiation. We identified key genes involved differentiation, male-specific differentially expressed (DEGs), including dmrt1, amh, sox9, gsdf, dmrt2b, female-biased DEGs, foxl2, rspo1, gdf9, bmp15, wnt4. GO KEGG enrichment analyses revealed that signaling pathways such as MAPK, Wnt, TGF-β play roles armatus. expression levels 13 sex-related genes, wnt4, were determined by RT–qPCR addition RNA sequencing. RT-qPCR validation results consistent with transcriptomic data, confirming reliability our findings. This research provides valuable insights into mechanisms armatus lays foundation for developing populations aquaculture.

The Chinese giant salamander (CGS), Andrias davidianus, the largest living amphibian, is of significant conservation importance for its wild populations and serves as a valuable economic species in aquaculture. Given that male CGS are larger than female, understanding mechanisms behind gonadal differentiation development critical optimizing production This study conducted small RNA-seq on female gonads during two key windows CGS. PCA analysis revealed distinct clustering within groups clear between groups. A total 374 miRNAs were identified, including 162 known 212 novel miRNAs. Differential expression enrichment across time points identified nine sex-biased involved differentiation, let-7b-3p, miR-3529-3p, miR-34c-5p, miR-10-5p, miR-7-5p, four miRNAs, network these with their target genes constructed. Furthermore, our findings suggest processes likely regulated by provides comprehensive related CGS, offering theoretical foundation enhancing aquaculture productivity through targeted sex ratio management.

Red-tail catfish (Hemibagrus wyckioides) is an important commercially farmed in southern China. Males of red-tail grow faster than females, suggesting that all-male will produce more significant economic benefits aquaculture practice. However, little research has been reported on sex determination and gonadal development catfish. In this study, we performed the first transcriptomic analysis male female gonads at four developmental stages 10, 18, 30, 48 days post hatching (dph) using RNA-seq technology. A total 23,588 genes were screened 24 sequenced samples, which 28, 213, 636, 1381 differentially expressed (DEGs) detected stages, respectively. Seven candidate differentiation further identified. Real-time quantitative PCR (RT-qPCR) confirmed anti-Mullerian hormone (amh), growth factor 6a (gdf6a), testis-specific gene antigen 10 (tsga10), cytochrome P450 family 17 subfamily (cyp17a) highly mainly male, while 19 polypeptide 1b (cyp19a1b), forkhead box L2 (foxl2), hydroxysteroid 17-beta dehydrogenase 1 (hsd17b1) female. The KEGG pathway enrichment data showed these identified DEGs involved steroid biosynthesis TGF-β signaling pathways.Based early seven shared by identified, among amh gdf6a may be male-biased expression genes, foxl2, cyp19a1b hsd17b1 female-biased catfish. Our study provide crucial genetic information for control catfish, as well exploring evolutionary processes mechanisms fish.
