Messenger RNA (mRNA) therapeutics hold great potential in the prevention and treatment of many diseases owing to several unique advantages. Delivery mRNA into target cells is a critical step therapy. Efficient safe delivery systems remain an urgent need. Here, we provide overview current applications protein nanocages (PNCs), which include different types PNCs, such as viral capsids, nonviral artificial delivery. PNCs have features uniform size, controllable assembly, modifiable inner outer surfaces, good biocompatibility, biodegradability, making them ideal candidates for In this review, properties, loading strategies, outcomes each tested PNC are introduced. The challenges faced by PNC-based carriers discussed. We also share our perspectives on possible strategies address these challenges, emphasizing opportunities brought emerging technologies disciplinary convergence.
