Toward the classification of social media use disorder: Clinical characterization and proposed diagnostic criteria

Empirical studies and theoretical models highlight that problematic use of social media can lead to significant functional impairments in several domains, such as social, relational, occupational, psychological functioning, well physical health. However, disorder is not currently recognized an official major diagnostic systems, limiting comparability among studies, precise prevalence estimation, ad-hoc preventive treatment program development. The present work aims classify a pathological condition sharing main mechanisms maladaptive patterns with addictive behaviors. We discuss criteria for by integrating peculiar features this behavior substance disorders behavioral addictions from systems (i.e., DSM-5 ICD-11). An experimental online study on the impact of negative social media comments on anxiety and mood

Social media has become the mainstream communication platform, offering unprecedented convenience, but its anonymity can also encourage negative interactions. This study investigates how comments on social affect adults’ anxiety and mood. In an experimental involving 128 adult participants (85 female, 43 male), individuals were asked to share blog posts a simulated internet forum. Subsequently, they exposed either negative, neutral, or positive comments, their mood levels measured using validated scales. Results showed that significantly increased decreased compared neutral while gender did not show any significant effects. Younger adults reported stronger responses than older adults, suggesting heightened sensitivity among younger users.
