It can negatively impact their physical and mental health, yet its influencing factors underlying mechanisms require further exploration. Time focus self-control are recognized as critical determinants in shaping addictive behaviors. Objective Grounded the I-PACE theory, this study examines relationship between emotional cognitive responses (various temporal focuses dual systems of self-control) short addiction, while also investigating mediating roles inhibitory initiation control. Methods Methodologically, it integrates both variable-centered person-centered approaches, utilizing Focus Scale, Multidimensional Self-Control Video Addiction Scale. A total 2,239 university students participated survey. Results The results revealed following: (1) Past present time were positively correlated with future showed a negative correlation. Inhibitory was associated whereas initiatory correlated. Variable-centered analysis demonstrated that past predicted these orientations addiction. Conversely, played role risk, predictive effect on likelihood (2) Person-centered identified four categories addiction: non-addicted (12.68%), low-risk (34.21%), moderate-risk (42.20%), high-risk (10.89%). (3) Logistic regression indicated excessive more likely to fall into category, those employing strategies be categorized low, moderate, or groups. Students less develop Female than male high categories, only children belong moderate non-only children. Conclusion This emphasizes pivotal dual-system intervention prevention addiction, further highlighting development short-video implications findings, well limitations study, discussed.
