Prior research has explored the consequences of sudden transition to remote work during pandemic. Less is known, however, about how mental distress individuals who changed locations pandemic differed from that those consistently worked home or on-site, nor what extent these differences varied across worker characteristics, such as gender and caregiving obligations. This study addresses gaps using data Pew Research Center’s American Trends Panel survey a Stress Process Model framework. Results show transitioned into working reported greater than on-site. association was larger among women with school-aged children. These findings suggest structural changes in location were more strongly related distress. Moreover, finding this unevenly distributed by obligations important implications.

Working remotely at least some of the time has long been seen as promoting a better integration work and care obligations, even though prepandemic research is mixed to extent which parents benefit emotionally from remote work. We exploit dual social experiments in schooling spawned by COVID-19 pandemic understand any stress-reducing effects working home under different school-closing state policy contexts. The led an unprecedented shift (and subsequent away from) hybrid but also implementation various containment policies, most notably school closures driving learning that were put into effect degrees across U.S. states. Drawing on parents’ data nationally representative panel survey workers who spent since onset, we use mixed-effects models examine whether what ways cross-state over-time variations closure policies shape impacts remote/hybrid Results show when schools not mandated close, largely reduces parents’—especially mothers’—stress. However, opposite pattern emerges face closing mandates. These patterns are especially pronounced among white mothers observed nonparents.

We analyzed cross-sectional population-based survey data from employed adults 2021 National Health Interview Survey. Job included perceived flexibility security. Outcomes serious psychological distress, frequency anxiety, utilization. Multivariable logistic binomial regression analyses interest, with statistical interaction tests conducted to assess differences. The 18,112 respondents weighted represent population 168,068,586 civilian, non-institutionalized (47.7% female). Females low security had decreased probability distress than males (F(3,589) = 2.79; p 0.040). lowest reported more days worked while ill over past 3 months, higher females 4.1; 0.007). average number missed 12 months was lower when as fairly increased 4.3; 0.005). The COVID-19 pandemic significantly impacted the mental health of workers. This study aimed to assess prevalence psychological distress among Brazilian workers during early months and explore its associated factors. A cross-sectional was conducted using an online questionnaire administered 2903 workers, including 1752 non-healthcare (NHCWs) 1151 healthcare (HCWs), between April May 2020. Snowball sampling employed for participant recruitment, research adapted use with population through a process translation cultural adaptation, based on instrument initially created validated in Spain. Differences NHCWs HCWs were tested chi-square or Fisher’s Exact test Mann–Whitney followed by effect size measurement. Multiple linear regression models used analyze association predictor variables. Psychological observed 72.6% (95% CI 70.1–74.2%) participants, no significant difference HCWs. Although 32 variables showed statistically differences HCWs, only 7 demonstrated clinical–epidemiological relevance, primarily related occupational Work-related stress positively distress, but this relationship diminished absence family members infected COVID-19. Conversely, higher sense coherence protective against although weakened highlights high pandemic’s months. Work played role, while appeared mitigate challenges. These findings highlight need targeted interventions, particularly facing both professional family-related stressors crises.

Yet, theoretical scholarship suggests there may be an upside to commuting for mental This study examines (a) whether the association between one-way duration and distress is non-linear (b) this modified by two within-domain demands: household labor relative one’s partner (home demand) job pressure (job demand). Multivariate results using data from cross-sectional survey of employed adults in dual-earning relationships United States ( n = 568) reveal U-shaped relationship distress. Specifically, we find decreases over first 44 minutes but increases thereafter. quadratic effect only observed at higher levels demands both home work. Under such conditions, shorter commutes are especially beneficial, whereas longer have most negative impact. Gender does not moderate these associations. highlights complex interplay various factors shaping health employees dual-earner relationships.
