This study assesses groundwater vulnerability in Owerri, Nigeria, using Vertical Electrical Sounding (VES) and Geographic Information System (GIS)-based DRASTIC modeling. The research methodology includes literature review, field survey, geological feature mapping, hydrogeological assessment, geo-electrical sounding, data interpretation. a rapidly developing city with flat topography growing population, uses the model to construct map. evaluates risk of contamination seven critical criteria, including depth water table, net recharge, aquifer media, soil topography, vadose zone impact, hydraulic conductivity. Each parameter was given weight rating, Index (DI) calculated by summing products weights ratings for each factor. results assessment indicated that approximately 49% area falls into high category, around 45% is classified as moderate vulnerability, remaining 6% labeled low vulnerability. reveals zones due factors like lower slope terrain, permeable impact. use VES GIS-based mapping techniques provides insights aiding sustainable resource management environmental protection. findings emphasize importance understanding potential risks need effective strategies safeguard clean supplies. Further mitigation efforts should focus on highly vulnerable areas.

This work was set up to appraise the quality of groundwater within a newly established university using index-based techniques and intention is generate vulnerability potential maps that can guide in avoiding vulnerable aquifer systems. The study used geo-electrical technology evaluate lithological sequence hydrogeological units their first-and second-order geo-electric properties, as well geochemical constituents groundwater. results showed are composed sequences sands, including fine gravelly sands minimally laced with sandy clay, according technology. Layers 2 3 were accessible by twenty VES (V1-V20) which current gained access designated economic prospective systems considered have resistivity values ranging from 26.3 3576.5Ωm mean value 832.97Ωm. five models deployed very high spatial variability moderate negative positive binary correlations, construed be due subjectivity weight-rate assignment. coefficients variation (CV) sensitivity analysis (SA) indicated index topography (9.7%) impact vadose zone (4.3%), marginally higher than 1.6% displayed other parameters. WHO's disallowed concentrations heavy ions, SA CV for contamination variably cadmium ions (140.9%) followed manganese (132%) copper (88. 2%) across wells. moderately variable contribution distributions wells nickel (48.8%), lead (41.6%), chromium (39.8%) iron (35.0%). All geophysical indices affirm contaminated therefore requires monitoring management.

Abstract The recent research is carried out to model the characteristics and productivity of groundwater aquifer in Omdurman area, Sudan, by combining electrical resistivity pumping test methods. most populous city known as traditional capital Sudan. Vertical sounding (VES) survey using Schlumberger array along four profiles delineate potential zones. Application 1D geophysical inversion revealed five geoelectric layers, including deposits, clay, silicified ferruginous sandstone, sandstone. Additionally, based on outcome VES inversion, Dar Zarrouk parameters, transverse resistance longitudinal conductance, were calculated characteristics. ranged from 5587 309,853 Ωm 2 , while conductance varied between 0.14 2.5 Ω −1 . hydraulic conductivity transmissivity are further measured data, ranging 1.4 5.2 m/d 435 1564 m /day, respectively. step-drawdown tests performed evaluate thus validate result geoelectrical method. obtained step 583 1226 showing an acceptable agreement with those data. Based classified highly productive ideal for development. drawdown was used assess performance wells. results indicated that faulty well design inappropriate rates influence some wells study resulting high low efficiency. Overall, objectives successfully achieved; nonetheless, detailed hydrogeological investigations recommended comprehensive evaluation aquifer.

Groundwater is a crucial resource for communities and plays significant role in the economy, especially regions where surface water sources are limited or unreliable. Nigerian Northeastern basement complexes unique geologic formations with specific hydrological characteristics that impact groundwater availability quality. However, there lack of comprehensive information on potential these areas, hindering effective management. To address this gap, study focuses application geospatial electrical techniques to map assess Pulka, northeastern complex Nigeria. This research used methodology delineate groundwater-prospective areas Northern Nigeria, aid VES technique was integrated Schlumberger electrode configuration, Shuttle Radar Topography Mission (SRTM), which were as input datasets. Lineament drainage density, lithology slope, land use cover, thematic maps created GIS rasters. The value estimates allotted based pair-wise examination elements appeared be important accumulation, retention, transportation. Analytical Hierarchy Process (AHP) software incorporate five components impacting suitability movement using weighted layering. hydraulic conductivity longitudinal conductance Pulka greatest towards west, maximum values 0.0665 m/day 1.75 S, respectively. Transverse resistance transmissivity eastern section 48.29 m2/day 9000 m, Based our SRTM, most soil type, represented 43%; lineament 33%; 13%; 7%; accounted least (around 4% overall contributions). has enormous development sustainable profitable extractions, according analysis geo-electrical techniques.

Abstract Water borehole failures in Nigeria's middle Benue Trough are caused by imprecise aquifer features. This study employed empirical data to understand hydraulic parameters, anticipate regional groundwater potential, and explain difficult geological locations. 89 VES stations quantitative interpretation were required determine the geoelectric properties beneath each station. Aquifer layers delineated their resistivity thickness combined using geo-environment specific relations yield transmissivity, conductivity for both basement complex sedimentary environments variously. Results show that ranges from 4.5 – 984.4 ohm-m; layer varies 4.4 m 96.7 with average thicknesses environment considerably greater; conductivities range 0.056 30.15 m/day, Transmissivity values 0.31 1281.36 m2/day. Log transformed transmissivity 3.51 7.1 Approximately 60.34% of entire area falls within magnitude III IV can only support withdrawals local water supply adequate small communities private consumption this may be inferred cause low high failure rates. Understanding characteristics is critical 6controlling groundwater; research advances knowledge terrain.

Abstract Groundwater plays a crucial role in Hungary sustaining ecosystems and meeting the growing demand for freshwater to fulfill domestic agricultural needs. This study employs analytical hierarchy process (AHP) methodology delineate groundwater potential zones Debrecen area, Hungary. To ensure robustness reliability of zoning, geophysical data are utilized validation purposes. In AHP modeling seven conditioning factors integrated, including geology, topography, slope, land use/land cover, precipitation, drainage density, lineament density. The integration normalized weights each factor identified three (GWPZs) assigned as moderate, high, very high potential. result model is further validated with gravity wireline logging. Gravity subjected spectral analysis forward map lineaments detect thickness sedimentary sequences. indicated that these sequences varies between 1.25 2.7 km, deep local basin delimited by normal faults situated eastern part area. Additionally, well-logging using Csókás method provided continuous estimation petrophysical hydrogeological parameters along main hydrostratigraphical units. Accordingly, uniform distribution hydraulic conductivity observed area due presence coarse-grained incised valley deposits. results showed close agreement models. interdisciplinary approach advanced mapping valuable insights into characteristics aquifers
