The impact of the Coronavirus Disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic on health systems is widely reported worldwide. However, what remains unclear relative extent pandemic's effects cancer management in sub-Saharan Africa (SSA). This review provides an up-to-date synthesis literature to inform post-pandemic policy and practice efforts region.Sources searched for published research include MEDLINE, PsycINFO, Cumulative Index Nursing Allied Health Literature, African Medicus, Wide Information Web Science. Using predefined criteria, retrieved citations were screened primary describing direct indirect impacts COVID-19 care service delivery landscape SSA since March 2020. Evidence was summarised using narrative synthesis.Fourteen studies reporting findings from 19 countries included this review. Studies conducted mostly first wave (between July 2020) (10/14). most commonly treatment (including surgery) cancellations, delays modifications (11/14). Half (7/14) resource availability restructuring. Other notable temporary suspension, total cancellations or alterations screening (3/14) diagnostic services programmes. Disruptions outreach activities also (3/14). maintenance healthcare depended multiple factors like clinical supplies, existing oncology workforce, adequate supply personal protective equipment local mitigation measures. Notably, no psychosocial support programmes, physiotherapy other rehabilitation patients.Changes due varied considerably across SSA. underscores need urgent actions mitigate current setbacks while recommending evidence-based contextualised approaches revitalising era.

Abstract Background Individuals living with and beyond cancer are at heightened risk of adverse psychological social outcomes experiences. In March 2020, the COVID-19 global pandemic presented a unique set circumstances potential to exacerbate challenges faced by this population. The purpose study was investigate experiences people during first year assess impact on aspects their lives. Methods From pool participants from larger health behaviours thirty were purposively sampled for characteristics including: diagnostic group (breast, prostate colorectal cancers), gender, time since diagnosis age. Semi-structured interviews conducted via telephone discuss experience through pandemic. A thematic analysis using needs-based approach detail fundamental needs expressed population in relation mental quality life Results Three underpinned participants: need feel safe; particularly contracting ongoing monitoring; connected; people, places, activities practices everyday life; make most out ; specifically context having already endured treatment. Participant described how they impacted each these three needs. Conclusions People have past that them vulnerable psychosocial reactions outcomes. Support provide greater clarity risk, clearer guidelines specific personal circumstances, regular updates scheduling important follow up care monitoring.
