Abstract Eveningness, a preference for later sleep and rise times, has been associated with number of negative outcomes in terms both physical mental health. A large body evidence links eveningness to Major Depressive Disorder (MDD). However, date, quantifying this association is limited. The current meta-analysis included 43 effect sizes from total 27,996 participants. Using random-effects model it was demonstrated that small size (Fisher’s Z = − 2.4, 95% CI [− 0.27. 0.21], p < 0.001). Substantial heterogeneity between studies observed, meta-regression analyses demonstrating significant mean age on the diurnal depression. There also potential publication bias as assessed by visual inspection funnel plots Egger’s test. depression magnitude heterogenous. better understanding mechanistic underpinnings linking suitably powered prospective allow causal inference are required.

The objective of this systematic review was to examine the associations between sleep timing (e.g., bedtime/wake-up time, midpoint sleep), consistency/regularity intra-individual variability in duration, social jetlag, catch-up and health outcomes adults aged 18 years older. Four electronic databases were searched December 2018 for articles published previous 10 years. Fourteen examined. A total 41 articles, including 92 340 unique participants from 14 countries, met inclusion criteria. Sleep assessed objectively 37% studies subjectively 63% studies. Findings suggest that later greater generally associated with adverse outcomes. However, because most reported linear associations, it not possible identify thresholds “late timing” or “large variability”. In addition, jetlag outcomes, while weekend better quality evidence ranged “very low” “moderate” across study designs using GRADE. conclusion, available supports earlier regularity patterns consistent bedtimes wake-up times are favourably health. (PROSPERO registration no.: CRD42019119534.) Novelty This is first influence consistency on Later both adults. Regularity should be encouraged.

The circadian rhythm plays a fundamental role in regulating biological functions, including sleep-wake preference, body temperature, hormonal secretion, food intake, and cognitive physical performance. Alterations can lead to chronic disease impaired sleep. rhythmicity human beings is represented by complex phenotype. Indeed, over 24-h period, person's preferred time be more active or sleep expressed the concept of morningness-eveningness. Three chronotypes are distinguished: Morning, Neither, Evening-types. Interindividual differences need considered reduce negative effects disruptions on health. In present review, we examine bi-directional influences rest-activity cycle pathologies disorders. We analyze main characteristics three chronotypes.

Abstract Actigraphy, a method for inferring sleep/wake patterns based on movement data gathered using actigraphs, is increasingly used in population-based epidemiologic studies because of its ability to monitor activity natural settings. Using special software, actigraphic are analyzed estimate range sleep parameters. To date, despite extensive application actigraphs research, published literature specifically detailing the methodology derivation parameters lacking; such information critical appropriate analysis and interpretation actigraphy data. Reporting has also been inconsistent across studies, likely reflecting lack consensus regarding definition onset offset. In addition, generally underutilized, with only fraction generated through routinely current research. The objectives this paper review existing algorithms cycles from data, demonstrate rules/methods estimating parameters, provide clear technical definitions suggest potential new measures that reflect intraindividual variability. Utilizing original collected Motionlogger Sleep Watch (Ambulatory Monitoring Inc., Ardsley, NY), we detail 29 nocturnal including those both widely rarely utilized By improving understanding process, provided may help: ensure use future studies; enable recalibration address specific goals; inform development measures; increase breadth used.

Abstract Objective On March 10, 2020, the Italian Government ordered a national lockdown to limit viral transmission of coronavirus disease 2019 infections. This study investigated how these restrictive measures have impacted sleep quality, timing, and psychological difficulties in school-age children their mothers during lockdown. Methods In an online survey, 299 reported habits, experience time, as well those (6–10 years old) and, retrospectively, before Results During lockdown, showed marked delay timing—that is, later bedtime rise time—and mild worsening quality. They were less prone respect daily routines or keep track passage time. increased emotional, conduct, hyperactive symptoms, increase was predicted by change boredom, mothers’ difficulties. addition, delayed timing quality varying degrees depending on working conditions. Mothers who kept regularly outside homes more regular patterns, whereas stopped emotional symptoms relevant changes perception Conclusions Overall, given evidence adverse behavioral impact home confinement social restrictions, effective needed be place mitigate long-term effects mothers, especially had stop

The circadian rhythm is crucial for physiological and behavioral functions. Chronotype, which represents individual preferences activity performance, associated with human health issues, particularly psychiatric disorders. This narrative review, focuses on the relationship between chronotype mental disorders, provides an insight into potential mechanism. Recent evidence indicates that (1) evening a risk factor depressive disorders substance use whereas morning protective factor. (2) Evening individuals bipolar disorder tend to have more severe symptoms comorbidities. (3) only related anxiety symptoms. (4) schizophrenia remains unclear, despite increasing their link. (5) significantly eating majority of studies focused binge Furthermore, underlying mechanisms or influence factors are described in detail, including clock genes, brain characteristics, neuroendocrinology, light/dark cycle, social factors, psychological sleep These findings provide latest chronotypes serve as valuable reference researchers.

Fasting-feeding timing is a crucial pattern implicated in the regulation of daily circadian rhythms. The interplay between sleep and meal underscores importance maintaining alignment order to avoid creating metabolic environment conducive carcinogenesis following molecular systemic disruption performance immune function. chronicity such condition may support initiation progression cancer through variety mechanisms, including increased oxidative stress, suppression, activation proliferative signaling pathways. This review aims summarize current evidence from human studies provide an overview potential mechanisms underscoring role chrononutrition (including time-restricted eating) on risk. Current shows that morning chronotype, suggesting physiological rhythms eating timing, associated with lower risk cancer. Also, early prolonged nighttime fasting were also suggests chronotype influences cell cycle regulation, modulation pathways inflammation, gut microbiota fluctuations. In conclusion, although there are no clear guidelines this matter, emerging supports hypothesis time-related (i.e., time/calorie-restricted feeding intermittent/periodic fasting) could potentially lead reduced

Consensus discussion led the selection three domains review-melatonin assessment, actigraphy, self-report.Measurement approaches used quantify function are described sufficient detail researchers clinicians make pragmatic decisions about their use. A novel integration literature is offered form provisional taxonomy distinguishing between measures (the instruments function, such as dim light melatonin onset) constructs biobehavioral processes measured, phase).Circadian variables important target clinical practice biomarker research. To improve reproducibility application constructs, informed systematic approach required. We trust this will decrease ambiguity support theory-based consideration options.
