The scientific literature and practice have demonstrated that the old linear economic model “extract—produce—use throw away” is no longer sustainable due to enormous accumulation of waste related production CO2. Consequently, there a need adopt more development systems include recycling resources producing goods derived from recycled material. examined highlights SMEs are least likely make technological or paradigm changes in favor choices lack managerial competencies. This study presents mixed-method approach based on qualitative quantitative analyses. analysis aims identify, Italian context, measures encourage companies reduce use plastics alternatives. analysis, secondary data, identify characteristics firms benefited aid identified previous analysis. Small and medium enterprise (SME) manufacturers are impeded from participating in sustainability initiatives using new technologies due to the high cost lack of clarity on where start. The integration low-cost digital solutions has enabled SME adopt Industry 4.0 support operations. However, address challenges is underexplored. This article addresses three key research questions: What do SMEs need industrial challenges? To what extent can existing be used How should for developing greater prioritised? Three main tasks were conducted. Initially, a sustainability-focused sub-catalogue was created an catalogue solution areas manufacturing. Secondly, workshop with 17 participants identify top ten priority areas, process monitoring, energy quality inspection at top. Lastly, within evaluated how they could contribute lean Predominantly waste or use reduction study provides foundation future development by indicating manufacturers’ outlining adapted reduction.

<p>In the rapidly evolving landscape of digital age, call for intelligent governance has become paramount. This study offers a nuanced exploration global sustainable governance, integrating Seven Pillars Sustainability (7PS) framework and innovation culture. Utilizing structural equation modeling data from diverse government organizations, this research empirically established 7PS framework's pivotal role in enhancing organizational sustainability, supported by robust 95% confidence level. Notably, it unveiled transformative influence culture amplifying 7PS's impact. The methodological lies strategically applying fuzzy analytic hierarchy process (AHP), assigning priority weights to criteria, identifying as linchpin. approach provided dissecting complex interplay emerging technologies, engineering, cybersecurity. delves into X.0 wave/age (X.0 = 5.0) theory, offering insights intricate dynamics innovation, governance. Beyond academic discourse, informs practical strategies globally, particularly small medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) transitioning SME 5.0/hybrid SMEs. Purpose In the Industry 4.0 (I4.0) era, small and medium enterprises (SMEs) face significant pressure to make their manufacturing operations more sustainable. However, SMEs often lack knowledge information needed leverage I4.0 technologies for achieving sustainability. This paper aims develop a multi-criteria decision-making (MCDM) model prioritize sustainability functions supported by in SMEs. Design/methodology/approach The fuzzy-DEMATEL method was developed classify based on prominence influence, categorizing them into cause-and-effect groups. Experts technologies, from Brazil were consulted during data collection phase. Sensitivity analysis also performed validate results obtained through DEMATEL method. Findings indicate that most prominent influential include organizing production processes, employee skill development simplifying planning control. Therefore, investing support these can enable amplify impact of initiatives improve operational efficiency. authors observed improving quality monitoring is primary function within effect group. Practical implications serves as roadmap SME managers seeking enhance effectiveness practices using thereby maximizing while minimizing complexity implementation. Originality/value study ranks key actions implement achieve It identifies should when technologies.
