How dispositional optimism–pessimism relates to early adolescents’ emotional maladjustment during COVID-19? Moderating roles of knowledge about the disease and parent-child conflicts

COVID-19
pandemic

lives

children
adolescents

investigate
individual
differences
in
emotional
maladjustment
under
pandemic,
this
study
focused
on
roles
dispositional
optimism-pessimism,
knowledge
about
disease,
conflicts
with
parents
among
Chinese
early
adolescents.

14

online
questionnaires

pandemic.

higher
pessimism
lower
optimism
both
led
increased
maladjustment,

greater

Abstract
Objectives
This
study
investigates
the
effectiveness
of
P-Positive
program
in
addressing
emotional
aggression
among
junior
high
school
students
Lopburi
Province,
Thailand.
Methods
A
quasi-experimental
one-group
pretest-posttest
design
was
employed
with
54
participants
aged
13–15.
The
intervention,
conducted
over
16
weeks,
applied
Knowledge,
Attitude,
and
Practice
(KAP)
framework.
Key
components
included
regulation,
empathy
development,
behavioral
change,
facilitated
through
structured
activities.
Emotional
intelligence
assessed
using
EQ
Metric,
evaluating
nine
dimensions
comprehensively.
Results
Statistically
significant
improvements
were
observed
across
all
(p<0.001).
most
notable
self-control,
empathy,
decision-making,
motivation
showing
highest
mean
difference
(4.333).
Inner
peace
exhibited
smallest
improvement
(1.593),
but
change
still
statistically
significant.
These
findings
highlight
program’s
enhancing
reducing
aggression.
Conclusions
shows
strong
potential
as
a
scalable
intervention
for
improving
well-being
mitigating
adolescents.
It
offers
valuable
insights
educators,
policymakers,
public
health
stakeholders,
suggesting
importance
integrating
such
programs
into
broader
educational
initiatives.
Further
refinements
to
address
specific
