Industries are working to minimize their reliance on petrochemicals and petroleum-based industrial components replace them with biobased, sustainable, environmentally friendly alternatives due the global warming emergency caused by uncontrolled production of greenhouse gases. The agricultural waste provides large volumes lignocellulosic biomass, a sustainable resource material develop wide portfolio bioproducts. Recent developments in integrated biorefineries have enhanced utilization lignocellulose generate biofuels, platform chemicals, resins, bioplastics, additives, other biobased materials for variety applications. Here this review, we summarized recent advancements processing biomass from waste. Additionally, review thoroughly discussed technological various constituents biocomposites, bioplastics. Finally, an assessment currently existing literature gaps prospective future perspectives development has been conducted.

Regarding the limited resources for fossil fuels and increasing global energy demands, greenhouse gas emissions, climate change, there is a need to find alternative sources that are sustainable, environmentally friendly, renewable, economically viable. In last several decades, interest in second-generation bioethanol production from non-food lignocellulosic biomass form of organic residues rapidly increased because its abundance, renewability, low cost. Bioethanol fits into strategy circular economy zero waste plans, using ethanol as an fuel gives world chance become independent petrochemical industry, providing security environmental safety. However, conversion challenging multi-stage process variation biochemical composition recalcitrance lignin, aromatic component lignocellulose. Therefore, commercial cellulosic has not yet well-received commercially, being hampered by high research costs, substantial effort needed make it more widespread profitable. This review summarises state art biomass, highlights most steps process, including pretreatment stages required fragment components further enzymatic hydrolysis fermentation, presents recent technological advances overcome challenges discusses future perspectives biorefineries.

An upsurge in global population and rapid urbanization has accelerated huge dependence on petroleum-derived fuels consequent environmental concerns owing to greenhouse gas emissions the atmosphere. integrated biorefinery uses lignocellulosic feedstock as raw material for production of renewable biofuels, other fine chemicals. The sustainable bio-economy industry would benefit greatly from effective use biomass obtained agricultural feedstocks replace petrochemical products. Lignin, cellulose, hemicellulose, extractives, which are essential components biomass, must be separated or upgraded into useful forms order fully realize potential biorefinery. development low-cost green pretreatment technologies with deconstruction is imperative an efficient bioprocess. abundance microorganisms along their continuous various degradative enzymes makes them suited environmentally friendly bioconversion agro-industrial wastes viable bioproducts. present review highlights concept biorefinery, its valorization by strategies biofuels biochemicals. major barriers challenges technologies, sustainability bioproducts, promising solutions alleviate those bottlenecks also summarized.

Abstract Climate change issues are calling for advanced methods to produce materials and fuels in a carbon–neutral circular way. For instance, biomass pyrolysis has been intensely investigated during the last years. Here we review of algal lignocellulosic with focus on products mechanisms, oil upgrading, combining anaerobic digestion, economy, life cycle assessment. Products include oil, gas, biochar. Upgrading techniques comprise hot vapor filtration, solvent addition, emulsification, esterification transesterification, hydrotreatment, steam reforming, use supercritical fluids. We examined economic viability terms profitability, internal rate return, return investment, carbon removal service, product pricing, net present value. also reviewed 20 recent studies found that method highly influenced yield, ranging from 9.07 40.59% 10.1 41.25% biochar, 11.93 28.16% syngas. Feedstock type, pyrolytic temperature, heating rate, reaction retention time were main factors controlling distribution products. Pyrolysis mechanisms bond breaking, cracking, polymerization re-polymerization, fragmentation. Biochar residual forestry could sequester 2.74 tons dioxide equivalent per ton biochar when applied soil thus potential remove 0.2–2.75 gigatons atmospheric annually. The generation bio-oil process is estimated be economically feasible.
