Abstract— During the first author’s doctoral research, in part developed at New York Botanical Garden and guided by William Wayt Thomas, several new species of Rhynchospora were discovered when revising NY herbarium specimens. In this study, we describe name one these as waytii , honor renowned sedge specialist friend. is closely related to R. nanuzae but displays distinguishing characteristics such broader leaves, inconspicuous rhizomes, larger spikelets stylopodia. It also exhibits a peculiar disjunct distribution, occurring Brazil Argentina, which explored here with models geographical range evolution suitable area occupancy. Our analysis suggests that habitats have historically existed along Atlantic coast, extending La Plata estuary, near location where Argentinian specimens collected.

Alternaria includes endophytes, saprophytes, and pathogens affecting both plants animals, with a global distribution across various hosts substrates. It is categorized into 29 sections, each defined by type species six monophyletic lineages. The section Nimbya comprises 10 primarily associated the families Juncaceae Cyperaceae, functioning as either saprophytes or plant pathogens. In this study, 189 fungal strains were collected from multiple locations provinces in Iran. isolates initially classified based on morphological characteristics ISSR-PCR molecular marker banding patterns. Multi-gene phylogenetic analyses of 38 selected strains, using ITS–rDNA, GAPDH, TEF1, RPB2, Alt 1 gene sequences, combined data, led to identification 13 species, including eight new namely caricifolia, A. cyperi, juncigena, junci-inflexi, persica, schoenoplecti, salkadehensis, urmiana. addition, work identified host associations (matrix nova) for three previously known species: caricicola Cyperus sp., cypericola Eleocharis junci-acuti Carex sp. study provides detailed descriptions illustrations all discusses their habitats, distribution, relationships within Nimbya, presents key Furthermore, these findings highlight significance studying biodiversity Iran contribute better understanding range Nimbya.

Here, we present paleometagenomic records of terrestrial aquatic taxa from the southeastern Tibetan Plateau covering last 18,000 years to help understand complex alpine ecosystem dynamics. Abstract Mapania (Cyperaceae) is a pantropical genus associated with the forest understorey. Its evolutionary history and species delimitation are poorly known in Southeast Asia. To address this lack of knowledge, DNA sequence data from four chloroplast regions (trnL-F, atpH-F, psbA-trnH, trnK-matK) were generated for number populations 15 Mapania. Bayesian maximum likelihood analyses concatenated showed better-resolved phylogeny than previous based on morphological alone. bancana was resolved as sister to other included study. Moreover, study highlights need further investigation limits genus. For instance, cuspidata retrieved polyphyletic, tentative new has been detected closely related debilis. This also infers cradle Asian Mapanias Borneo, which holds largest diversity region. still understood that requires local taxonomic work more comprehensive fieldwork records better assess protect these species.

Two new dwarf species of Diplacrum are described from tropical Australia: blakei K.L.Wilson & R.L.Barrett and D. latzii R.L.Barrett. is the only genus in Cyperaceae tribe Bisboeckelereae occurring Australia. Historically, it has been confused with Scleria (Tribe Sclerieae). Descriptions provided for all four Australian species, as well a generic description key to three additional Malesian South-East Asian species. Brief comments made about Africa, Americas India.

Background and aims – The rise of DNA sequencing in systematics has brought more understanding the Cyperaceae family worldwide. Through these studies, it been possible to delineate major clades classify its species into subfamilies, tribes, genera. Today, we have a good diversity geographic distribution However, case Madagascar, only complete taxonomic treatment dates from 1937. Although recent monographs exist for some genera Madagascar not updated until now. Hence, present work produce an at generic level including descriptions identification key all Madagascar. Material methods Books scientific articles containing information on their ecology were consulted, as well herbarium specimens, collections, data available online herbaria aggregator portals. Key results is very rich Cyperaceae. island are distributed 24 genera, one endemic genus, i.e. Trichoschoenus . Ten monotypic island. Sixteen 29 described Flore de remain accepted but others now either synonyms Cyperus , or no longer apply because they absent such Scirpus Regarding habitat ecology, specific particular habitat, like Costularia while that broadly distributed, Scleria Conclusion Our study provides overview key, descriptions, illustrations.
