We explored the feasibility of a self-assembled chitosan nanocomposite incorporating cerium oxide/nanoceria and superparamagnetic iron oxide nanoparticles (Chit-IOCO NPs), conjugated with methotrexate (MTX) Cy5 dye, as an integrated cancer theranostic nanosystem (Chit-IOCO-MTX-Cy5). This study reports the multifunctional potential of gold nanoparticles (AuNPs) biosynthesized by using Salvia splendens leaf extract (SSLE). The AuNPs were characterized UV–Visible spectroscopy, transmission electron microscopy (TEM), and dynamic light scattering, followed assessment their anti-cancer, anti-oxidant, anti-inflammatory anti-bacterial potentials. SSLE-AuNPs showed a characteristic absorbance peak at 559 nm that corresponds to surface plasmon resonance (SPR) band AuNPs. zeta was estimated be ‒ 21 ± 1.9 mV, TEM analysis confirmed particles spherical with an average size 94.8 5.1 nm. exhibited dose-dependent antioxidant activity, IC50 values 218.5 4.2 µg/mL (DPPH) 185.3 3.7 (ABTS), compared ascorbic acid (32.1 1.8 28.6 1.5 µg/mL, respectively. In addition, exerted potent effect against Staphylococcus aureus (MIC 50 68 2.1 μg/mL) Klebsiella pneumoniae 82 2.3 μg/mL), which comparable standard antibacterial agent, tetracycline. Moreover, induced significant reduction in cellular viability A549 cells concentrations 100, 200 400 μg/mL, respectively (p < 0.001). Such cytotoxic accompanied considerable instigation nuclear fragmentation condensation, caspase activation, ROS generation cells.
