The efficacy of bright light therapy (BLT) in ameliorating depression has been validated. present study is to investigate the changes depressive symptoms, cognitive function and cerebellar functional connectivity (FC) following BLT individuals with subthreshold (StD). Participants were randomly assigned group (N = 47) or placebo 41) this randomized controlled trial between March 2020 June 2022. Depression severity assessed, as well resting-state MRI scan was conducted before after 8-weeks treatment. Seed-based whole-brain static FC (sFC) dynamic (dFC) analyses bilateral subfields conducted. Besides, a multivariate regression model examined whether baseline brain associated during After 8-week treatment, StD showed improved symptoms attention/vigilance function. also increased sFC right lobule IX left temporal pole, decreased within cerebellum, dFC medial prefrontal cortex. Moreover, fusion at could predict improvement response BLT. current identified that attention/vigilance, changed cerebellum-DMN connectivity, especially cerebellar-frontotemporal internal FC. In addition, features pre-treatment serve an imaging biomarker for StD.

Abstract Circadian clocks control most physiological processes of many species. We specifically wanted to investigate the influence environmental and endogenous rhythms their interplay on electrophysiological dynamics neuronal populations. Therefore, we measured local field potential (LFP) time series in wild-type Cryptochrome 1 2 deficient ( Cry1/2 −/− ) mice suprachiasmatic nucleus accumbens under regular light conditions constant darkness. Using refined descriptive statistical analyses, systematically profiled LFP activity. show that both strongly rhythmicity signals frequency components, but also shape patterns much smaller scales, as activity is significantly less at each more synchronous within between brain areas than mice. These results functional circadian are integral for non-circadian coordination ensemble dynamics.

Abstract Background Light can influence several non-image-forming biological effects including the modulation of mood and emotional processing through neural circuitry that remains to be fully established. Rodent data showed nuclei amygdala, known important regulation processing, receive direct inputs from retina mediate part affective impact light. Here, we wanted assess whether these animal findings translate human beings. We determine dynamics light exposure on activity varied across its volume, during stimulation. Methods used 7 Tesla functional magnetic resonance imaging variations in illuminance regional amygdala healthy young adults (N = 29; 18 women; 24 ± 3.1y) an auditory task. Results find subregions medial nucleus receives retinal projection, a marked linear reduction with increasing when emotionally charged stimuli. Conclusion speculate it is affects state individuals. These shed more mechanisms underlie brain may contribute benefits therapy treatment disorders.

Background: Due to limitations in treatment strategies for post-traumatic stress disorders (PTSD), therapeutic options such as light therapy (LT) have garnered some interest recent years. We aimed review the effectiveness of LT patients with PTSD. Methods: Using PubMed, PsycINFO, Web Science, Cochrane database, ClinicalTrials.gov, and PTSDpubs, we systematically searched papers assessing effect evaluated risk bias included studies using handbook, synthesized our findings following Preferred Reporting Items Systematic reviews Meta-Analyses guidelines (PRISMA 2020). Results: From 140 initial papers, four randomized controlled trials (RCTs) one single-arm study. The study sample size ranged between 15 82, mean age (standard deviation) varied 31.4 (8.8) 44.9 (11.8) years, was applied or six weeks. low three studies, concern two other trials. Most reported no significant differences placebo regarding effects on subjective (sleep quality insomnia severity) objective sleep parameters. associated a improvement PTSD symptom severity RCTs, well greater retention extinction learning. Results depression anxiety were discrepant. Conclusions: This revealed that relevant are scarce, promising concerning symptoms, but inconsistencies Further research projects needed better explore this topic.

Abstract Background The worldwide number of adults aged 60 years and older is expected to double from 1 billion in 2019 2.1 by 2050. As the population lives longer, rising incidence chronic diseases, cognitive disorders, behavioral health issues threaten adults’ span. Exercising, getting sufficient sleep, staying mentally socially active can improve quality life, increase independence, potentially lower risk for Alzheimer’s disease or other dementias. Nonpharmacological approaches might help promote such behaviors. Indoor lighting may impact sleep quality, physical activity, function. Dynamically changing indoor brightness color throughout day has positive effects on function, activity its occupants. aim this study investigate how different conditions affect measures healthier aging. Methods This protocol a randomized, cross-over, single-site trial followed an exploratory third intervention. Up 70 independent living residences at senior facility will be recruited. During 16-week study, participants experience three conditions. Two cohorts first static dynamic condition cluster-randomized cross-over design. have fixed match typically provided facility. For condition, change with increased morning. After both another morning determine if there saturation effect between light exposure health-related measures. Light intake, measured using wearable devices. Sleep, mood, social engagement assessed surveys assessments. Discussion We hypothesize better greater during compared condition. Additionally, we maximal threshold which health-outcomes based exposure. Study findings identify optimal solutions healthy aging adults. The aging effects on circadian rhythms have diverse implications including changes in the pattern of rhythmic expressions, such as a wide fragmentation rhythm rest-activity and decrease amplitude activity regulated by suprachiasmatic nucleus (SCN). study blue light biological aspects has received great current interest due, among some aspects, to its positive psychiatric disorders humans. This aims evaluate effect therapy SCN functional through evaluation rhythm, rats. For this, 33 sixteen-months-old male Wistar rats underwent continuous records locomotor were exposed periods 6 hours during first half phase (Zeitgeber times 0-6) for 14 days. After maintained at 12h:12h light:dark cycle check long-term Blue repeated exposure showed variables aged rats, particularly increase amplitude, elevation robustness, advance acrophase, greater consolidation resting phase. depends presence daily exposure. In conclusion, our results indicate that is reliable reduce dysfunctions but other studies assessing how modulates neural components modulate this response are still needed.
