Abstract The cycling stability of O3‐type NaNi 1/3 Fe Mn O 2 (NFM) as a commercial cathode material for sodium ion batteries (SIBs) is still challenge. In this study, the Ni/Fe/Mn elements are replaced successfully with tantalum (Ta) in NFM lattice, which generated additional delocalized electrons and enhanced binding ability between transition metal oxygen, resulting suppressed lattice distortion during charging discharging. This caused significant mitigation voltage decay improved cycle within potential range 2.0–4.2 V. optimized Na(Ni ) 0.97 Ta 0.03 sample achieved reversible capacity 162.6 mAh g −1 at current rate 0.1 C 73.2 high 10 C. Additionally, average charge/discharge retention reached 98% after 100 cycles, significantly mitigating decay. work demonstrates contribution towards practical utilization cathodes SIBs energy storage field.
