Abstract Mercier and Sperber (MS) have ventured to undermine an age-old assumption in logic, namely the presence of premise-conclusion structures, favor two novel claims: that reasoning is evolutionary product a reason-intuiting module mind, theories logic teach next nothing about mechanisms how inferences are drawn module. The present paper begs differ: indispensable formulating conceptions cognitive elements reasoning, MS no less exempt from taking notice structures than commonplace are. Our counterclaim realized terms diagrammatic dating back Charles Peirce’s pragmaticism. upshot pragmatist restores argumentation, supplants reason-intuition with logical content, validates good as resource evident all rational minds claim ownership reason understanding.
