Abstract Background Quantitative assessment of muscle mass is a critical step in sarcopenia disease management. Expanding upon the use ultrasound foetal growth assessment, we established and validated an ultrasound-derived system for older adults at risk sarcopenia. Methods A total 669 were recruited three cohorts this cross-sectional study. In cohort 1(n = 103), most valuable sites skeletal index (SMI) estimation located among 11 scanning sites. This study aimed to examine sarcopenia prevalence using the Asian Working Group for Sarcopenia 2019 (AWGS) and Foundation National Institutes of Health (FNIH) definitions, their associations with important health conditions affecting midlife Singaporean women. Muscle mass function were objectively assessed in 1201 healthy community-dwelling subjects aged 45–69 years under Integrated Women’s Program (IWHP). Dual-energy X-ray absorptiometry (DXA), handgrip strength Short Physical Performance Battery (SPPB) measured, relationship between hypertension, type 2 diabetes (T2DM), osteoporosis, depression/anxiety, urinary incontinence examined binary logistic regression models. was 18.0% 7.7% by AWGS FNIH criteria respectively. Osteoporosis (aOR: 1.74, 95% CI: 1.02, 2.94) T2DM 1.98, 1.14, 3.42) positively associated AWGS- FNIH-defined respectively, while hypertension not, after adjustment age, ethnicity, education levels menopausal status. A negative percent agreement 95.6% suggests good absence sarcopenia. Even though they represent a single concept, either criterion differed relationships suggesting need further rationalization diagnostic criteria.

In this study, we investigated whether nutrition status mediates the relationship between cognitive decline and sarcopenia. Sarcopenia was assessed in 4023 community-dwelling older adults from West China using AWGS 2014 diagnostic criteria. Cognitive function were 10-item Short Portable Mental Status Questionnaire (SPMSQ) Mini Nutrition Assessment-Short Form (MNA-SF) scale, respectively. Mediation model regression analysis demonstrated that negatively associated with sarcopenia (β = -0.521; 95% CI: -0.583 to -0.459). The indirect effects of on significant after adjusting for age, sex, ethnicity 0.015; 0.012 0.017), but direct not statistically adding as a parameter mediation -0.001; -0.008 0.005). The association between obesity and sarcopenia remains controversial. present study was conducted to explore the associations among body mass index (BMI), visceral fat area (VFA), in older people analyze their potential mechanisms. This cross-sectional included 861 community-dwelling Chinese from three regions of China. BMI, VFA, muscle mass, strength, physical performance, composition, metabolic markers were measured. Muscle strength positively correlated with but negatively VFA. Simple overweight/obesity associated (OR = 0.07, 95% CI 0.03~0.18), OR value lower than combined 0.16, 0.09~0.28).
