This study investigates the manufacturability of laser powder bed fusion (LPBF) for fabricating SS316L into components with rectangular micropillar arrays on their surface. The micropillars different width sizes from 200 to 800 μm were fabricated various LPBF volumetric energy densities and building directions. Scanning Electron Microscope, Optical Vickers hardness test used observe effect sizes, densities, build directions morphologies, structural densification, geometrical accuracies, properties micropillars. In this work, experimental results present that optimum density fabricate a minor defect was 105 J/mm3. built direction 0° 45° planes had stable morphologies accuracies. larger pitch, but smaller gap than computer aided design designs. property affected by size micropillars, density, during process. conclusion, 200–800 successfully component's surface created at technique using J/mm3 density.

Additive manufacturing (AM) of stainless steel is more difficult than other metallic materials, as the major alloying elements are prone to oxidation during fabrication process. In current work, specimens 316L were made by powder laser bed fusion (P-LBF) additive These investigated electron microscopy and micro-/nano-indentation techniques investigate microstructural aspects mechanical properties, respectively. Compositionally, a similar wrought was subjected identical investigation, used benchmark material. The microstructure P-LBF-processed alloy shows both equiaxed elongated grains, which marginally smaller (3.2–3.4 μm) that counterpart (3.6 μm). Withstanding such marginal gain size refinement, increase in shear stress hardness L-PBF striking. L-PBF-processed possess about 1.92–2.12 GPa hardness, 1.5 times higher (1.30 GPa), 1.15 resistant against plastic flow Similarly, maximum (274.5–294.4 MPa) (175.9 MPa).

A selective laser-melted Al-Mn-Sc alloy with 99.9% relative density has been obtained in this work through systematic process optimization. The as-fabricated specimen had the lowest hardness and strength, but highest ductility. aging response shown that 300 °C/5 h is peak aged condition, it hardness, yield ultimate tensile elongation at fracture. Such a high strength was attributed to uniformly distributed nano-sized secondary Al3Sc precipitates. further increase temperature 400 °C resulted an over-aged which contained reduced volume fraction of precipitates strength.

The spatter generated by the interaction between laser and powder during Powder Bed Fusion-Laser Melting (PBF-LM) can significantly affect quality of printed parts. A high-speed camera is used to observe dynamic process spatter’s behavior under different layer thickness powers printing process, analyze samples’ surface roughness, microstructure, mechanical properties. In terms image processing, employing an optical flow approach track quantify number spatters efficiently eliminates statistical redundancy improves correctness. It found that same power, produced scan direction with gas (LSD-W) more than against (LSD-A), increases increase power. Abstract The effect of robotic weaving motion on the crystallographic orientation, texture and mechanical properties thin-walled nickel titanium shape memory alloy fabricated via wire arc additive manufacturing is studied. Crystallographic orientation analysis reveals that alters epitaxial growth grains, which reduces fraction (001) oriented grains but increased (110) (111) grains. Moreover, increases equiaxed homogeneously distributes Ni 4 Ti 3 phases. These changes improve hardness strength build also introduce isotropy in properties. Results study reveal strategy has a great potential achieving near isotropic tensile characteristics beneficial terms tailoring building smart material structures.
