School-based mindfulness programs (SBMPs) have gained global popularity. Yet, there is a need for more rigorous procedures to develop and assess them. This study aimed address these limitations by examining the effectiveness of Portuguese SBMP, called SER + FELIZ(mente). The final sample included 190 third fourth-graders: 99 in SBMP group 91 wait-list group. Effects on attentional control, emotional regulation wellbeing were examined short term (T2) 6 months later (T3). We also tested moderating role age, gender, baseline scores. Using multilevel modeling approach, results showed clear benefit at T2 but not T3. Despite students surpassing cognitive reappraisal, social T2, effects due levelling off among students, coupled with decline from T1 T2. These moderated age While universal improvements limited, our seemed acted as shield against school stressors (i.e., likely, test anxiety T2). opens new avenue research concerning SBMPs preventing (rather than repairing) mental-health issues elementary students.
