[1] Tide effects on the structure of near-field Changjiang River plume and extension far-field have often been neglected in analysis numerical simulations, which is focus this study. Numerical experiments highlighted crucial role tidal forcing modulating plume. Without forcing, results an unrealistic upstream along Jiangsu coast. With vertical mixing increases, resulting a strong horizontal salinity gradient at northern side mouth coast, acts as dynamic barrier restricts northward migration Furthermore, produces bidirectional near field, separation located head submarine canyon. A significant bulge occurs around canyon rotates anticyclonically, carries large portion diluted water toward northeast merges into moves southeast, mainly caused by rectification. This more evident under certain wind conditions. During neap tide with reduced energy, extends farther offshore, becomes less evident. These behaviors are maintained fundamentally important region river even summer monsoon shelf currents, although far field currents eventually dominate extension.

Hypoxia off the Changjiang Estuary has been frequently reported using short time duration field data. However, its evolution was unknown because of a lack long-term data and associated dominant factor. A 104-day long dataset collected with bottom mounted system in summer 2009. The monitored parameters were dissolved oxygen (DO), temperature, pressure current. Two hypoxia events identified, showing that severe lasted for more than half month. first event appeared on July 18 17 days. During this period, minimum DO down to 0.17 mg/L, which broke historical record. second August 30 days 1.29 mg/L. variation closely related stratification. showed almost every increase/decrease weakening/enhancing stratification, recorded as many 12 times during monitoring period. Wind mixing modulated or affected events. Using lagged correlation analysis, stratification wind significantly correlated coefficient determination r2 = 0.72, by 35 h. 0.65, 33 formation periods two estimated from 20 15 days, much shorter on-board experiments. Strong played dual role hypoxia. It could relieve conditions supplying through mixing. accelerated afterward result enhanced phytoplankton bloom induced high organic decomposition rates consuming DO.

Estimation of sea surface salinity (SSS) using the Geostationary Ocean Color Imager-II (GOCI-II) measurements in East China Sea (ECS) was conducted from July to September 2021, when first-year observations are available after GOCI-II launch 2020. The SSS ECS is mainly affected by Changjiang River plume, which varies under 20–35 psu, and discharged freshwater disperses river mouth towards Jeju Island, Korea. For estimation, a multi-layer perceptron neural network (MPNN) employed train nonlinear processes spectral as inputs Soil Moisture Active Passive (SMAP) target. Because has four additional bands (380, 510, 620 709 nm) compared first generation GOCI (413, 443, 490, 555, 660 680 nm), we developed new MPNN algorithm analysed (1) how much these increase accuracy, (2) enhanced spatial temporal resolution make features different GOCI. results showed that root mean square error (RMSE) coefficient determination (R2) were 0.68 psu 0.92, respectively. Furthermore, R2, with in-situ at Ieodo Research Station (I-ORS), increased 0.23 (0.20–0.43) for 10-band model, performed better than previous 6-band model. second result suggests improved more frequent can be utilized avoid low intrusion into aquafarming sites off coast More importantly, elucidated why performs conventional estimation methods comparing various optical properties variation; thus, newly model provide not only but also water near southwest Korean coasts hourly 250 m.

This study investigated the spatiotemporal distribution of phytoplankton in coral habitat Dongshan Bay (China), along with critical factors affecting distribution, during June, August, and December 2022. Phytoplankton abundance exhibited considerably temporal variation, peaking June 2022, gradually decreasing thereafter, reaching its lowest point The bottom-layer consistently exceeded that surface layer throughout all seasons. average was lower than non-coral areas. Fluctuations Zhangjiang River coastal upwelling influenced diversity community structure phytoplankton. Critical causing variability included nutrient concentrations seawater temperature. Nutrients played key roles influencing various groups. Dominant diatom species, such as Thalassionema nitzschioides Thalassiosira diporocyclus , were positively correlated ammonia nitrogen, salinity, cover, number species present. In winter, Calanus sinicus a negative correlation harmful algal bloom species. Additionally, it found both surrounding open sea, currents, nutrients, zooplankton may play crucial determining structure.
