Alternaria, a genus of ascomycetes, comprises major plant pathogens, saprobes and are common allergens to humans. There more than 360 accepted species in the genus, which currently divided into 29 sections. This paper aims elaborate taxonomy Alternaria with multi-locus phylogenetic trees derived by analyses concatenated DNA sequence dataset consisting ITS, LSU, TEF1-α, RPB2, GAPDH Alt-a1 loci. Eighteen new viz. arctoseptata, A. arundinis,A. baoshanensis, breviconidiophora,A. brevirostra,A. ellipsoidialis,A. eupatoriicola,A. falcata,A. lathyri, macilenta,A. macroconidia,A. minimispora,A. nodulariconidiophora, oblongoellipsoidea, orobanches, phragmiticola,A. phytolaccae salicicola introduced classified sect. Infectoriae, Porri Radicina. Alternaria alternata andA. doliconidium also described herein host geographical records, China, Italy, Thailand. study further explores utility divergent time estimates gain additional insights evolutionary relationships Pleosporales.

The Sordariomycetes is a specious, morphologically diverse, and widely distributed class of the phylum Ascomycota that forms well-supported clade diverged from Leotiomycetes.Aside their ecological significance as plant human pathogens, saprobes, endophytes, fungicolous taxa, species produces wide range chemically novel diverse metabolites used in important fields.Recent phylogenetic analyses derived small number genes have considerably increased our understanding family, order, subclass relationships within Sordariomycetes, but several groups not been resolved well.In addition, there are various paraphyletic or polyphyletic groups.Moreover, criteria to establish higher ranks remain highly variable across different studies.Therefore, taxonomy constant flux, remains poorly understood, subject much controversy.Here, for first time, we assembled dataset containing 638 genomes representing 156 genera, 50 families, 17 orders 5 subclasses Sordariomycetes.This data set based on 1124 results well-resolved phylogenomic tree.We further constructed an evolutionary timeline diversification genomic sets.Our divergence time estimate inconsistent with previous studies, suggesting estimates node ages less precise varied.Based these results, discuss empirically propose unprecedented taxonomic framework class.
