Niacin was found in the lysolecithin model of multiple sclerosis (MS) to promote phagocytic clearance debris and enhance remyelination. Lysolecithin lesions have prominent microglia/macrophages but lack lymphocytes that populate plaques MS or its experimental autoimmune encephalomyelitis (EAE) model. Thus, current study assessed efficacy niacin EAE. We inconsistently affects EAE clinical score, largely does not ameliorate neuropathology. In culture, enhances phagocytosis by macrophages, reduce T cell proliferation. suggest studies for potential remyelination should include a therapeutic targets adaptive immunity.

The long-term health impacts of niacin are still debated, and the association between dietary mortality risk in populations hasn't been extensively explored. This study included 26,746 US adults aged 20 years or older from National Health Nutrition Examination Survey 2003–2018, with a median follow-up 9.17 years. During this period, there were 3,551 all-cause deaths, including 1,096 cardiovascular deaths. Cox models used to compare hazard ratios (HRs) for among participants grouped into different intake quartiles. Participants highest had lower (HR 0.74, 95%CI 0.63–0.86) compared those lowest quartile. For mortality, HR was 0.73 (95%CI 0.57–0.95) A dose-response relationship revealed by restricted cubic spline. Subgroup analysis showed significant interaction diabetes concerning (P = 0.046). In population-based cohort study, higher correlates adults. influence on appears be more non-diabetic individuals diabetes.

This study investigates the impact of a high-fat-rich diet (HFRD) on behavioral, biochemical, neurochemical, and histopathological studies using hypothalamus rats following niacin (NCN) administration. The were divided into HFRD normal (ND)-fed groups administered selected doses NCN, i.e., 25 mg/mL/kg (low dose) 50 (high dose), for 8 weeks. grouping male (n = 8) was as follows: (i) Vehicle (Veh) + ND; (ii) ND NCN dose); (iii) (iv) Veh HFRD; (v) (vi) dose). Behavioral tests assessed depression-like symptoms spatial memory; after that, isolated various analyses sacrificed animals. at both decreased food intake growth rate in demonstrated antidepressant memory-enhancing effects. HFRD-induced oxido-neuroinflammation with NCN. decreases serotonergic neurotransmission, 5-HT1A receptor expression, morphological alterations rat's normalized by In conclusion, potential antioxidant neuromodulator, can normalize feeding behavior produce memory-improving effects rat model obesity intake.
