Abstract Waste pickers are recognised as a key stakeholder in the ongoing negotiations towards an international legally binding instrument to end plastic pollution. Up 34 million waste contribute recovering close 60% of recycled post-consumer globally. The International Alliance Pickers (IAWP) has actively engaged safeguard just transition for these important but vulnerable and frequently overlooked workers. This article explores how IAWP gained prominence plastics treaty through three iterative processes. First, reiterative naming “waste pickers” constituted symbolic practice discursive influence that heightened recognition pickers’ role knowledge rights holders Second, performative dimension picker advocacy influenced official informal events. Abstract Plastics and their associated chemical pollution have emerged as a global threat. This recognition materialized in March 2022 with the adoption of groundbreaking mandate among United Nations (UN) Member States, signaling commencement negotiations for comprehensive treaty aimed at ending plastic pollution, encompassing entire lifecycle. The first session convened International Negotiating Committee (INC-1) Punta del Este, Uruguay from November 28th–December 2nd, 2022, there, four other negotiation sessions either or will, expected conclusion December 2024. current study introduces methodology systematically observing documenting agreement-making. This article is about household plastics recycling in England. Rates of have stagnated across the country over past decade. Fitting with an individualisation responsibility industry and policy, households commonly get blame. We bring this framing into question through a conceptualisation exploration ‘disposal work’ undertaken by households. concerns bundle practices involved identification, preparation, segregation everyday discards. Abstract With the ongoing negotiations for an international legally binding instrument on plastic pollution, including in marine environment, and frustration at end of Intergovernmental Negotiating Committee (INC-3), analyzing zero draft text, which formed basis this negotiation round, is crucial.
