Waste pickers are recognised as a key stakeholder in the ongoing negotiations towards an international legally binding instrument to end plastic pollution. Up 34 million waste contribute recovering close 60% of recycled post-consumer globally. The International Alliance Pickers (IAWP) has actively engaged safeguard just transition for these important but vulnerable and frequently overlooked workers. This article explores how IAWP gained prominence plastics treaty through three iterative processes. First, reiterative naming "waste pickers" constituted symbolic practice discursive influence that heightened recognition pickers' role knowledge rights holders Second, performative dimension picker advocacy influenced official informal events. Third, by engaging "scale work", have leveraged their alliances work across national, regional levels. By examining frames naming, performance scale, contributes advance scholarly literature on grassroots movements global environmental governance (GEG).
