Anemone altaica Fisch. ex C. A. Mey., a component of the tertiary boreo-nemoral vegetation complex, exhibits disjunct distribution from European Russia to Central China. The Khamar-Daban Ridge, extending along Lake Baikal’s southern coast, has served as refugium preserving mesophilic forest remnants in South Siberia since Pleistocene. This study aimed elucidate phylogenetic relationships and historical biogeography within using plastid DNA markers (trnL + trnL-trnF). Phylogenetic mismatch analysis revealed polyphyly (more specifically diphyly) among lineages, suggesting past hybridization events with related species followed by backcrossing. Estimation isolation distance effect, spatial autocorrelation analysis, PCoA, AMOVA indicated clear genetic structure for on Ridge. most reliable geographical model suggests that during periods Pleistocene cooling, persisted at least six microrefugia ridge. Populations associated these formed western, central, eastern supergroups limited gene flow them. Gene likely occurred more easily glaciations or early interglacials when subalpine zone shifted closer Baikal due depression snow boundary, allowing adjacent populations intermingle glacial edges terminal moraines mountain belt.
