Abstract Skin cancer is one of the most common types worldwide, with exposure to UVB radiation being a significant risk factor for its development. To prevent skin cancer, continuous research efforts have focused on finding suitable photoprotective ingredients from natural sources that are also environmentally friendly. This study aimed develop oil-in-water nanoemulsions containing marine macroalgae extract. A Box–Behnken experimental design was used identify promising formulation composition, resulting in optimal physical properties. These properties, including droplet size, polydispersity index (PDI), and zeta potential, were evaluated using dynamic light scattering (DLS). assess photoprotection capacity formulations, electrical impedance spectroscopy (EIS) employed evaluate alterations characteristics excised pig membranes placed Franz cells equipped 4-electrode set-up. The final composition nanoemulsion caprylic/capric triglycerides 4%, Macrogolglycerol ricinoleate 30%, algae extract 1%. had an average size 128.5 ± 8.6 nm, PDI 0.25 0.06, potential 45.14 0.02 mV. Compared control group, statistically significant. Specifically, only 15% reduction membrane resistance following observed when used, whereas 50% vehicle. In conclusion, this work demonstrates developed based show protective against skin.

In recent years, the interest in developing genetically modified microorganisms (GMMs), including GMMs developed by genome editing, for use environment has significantly increased. However, scientific knowledge on ecology of such is severely limited. There also little experience at hands regulators how to evaluate environmental safety and assess whether they provide sustainable alternatives current (agricultural) production systems. This review analyzes two different GMM applications, GM microalgae biofuel nitrogen-fixing soil bacteria as biofertilizers. We challenges posed regulatory risk assessment (ERA) against background GMO legislation existing European Union (EU). Based our analysis, we present recommendations ERA monitoring particular improvement EU guidance. explore approaches technology can a framework broader applications. To this end, recommend implementing an evidence-based sustainability analysis other methods support decision making address societal concerns linked applications environment.
