Abstract Surfactants are used for a variety of applications as emulsifiers, solubilizers, or foaming agents. Their intensive production and use in pharmaceuticals, cosmetics agricultural products have resulted their continuous discharge the environment, especially via wastewaters. become threat to living organisms, they interact with, disrupt, cell membranes macromolecules. effects mainly been studied aquatic species; however, terrestrial organisms also threatened by these emerging contaminants. In this context, study investigates two widely nonionic surfactants, Tween-20 Triton X-100 on key traits fruit fly Drosophila melanogaster. We assessed toxicity surfactants viability, development time, body size food intake flies. The results revealed that both induced toxic drosophila flies leading decreased delayed lowered consumption at highest tested concentrations. For all tested, appeared more than Tween-20. Both proved be flies, might extend other invertebrates. widespread substances, which then end up should regulated mitigate impacts biodiversity ecosystems.
