Dry eye after cataract surgery is one of the common complications phacoemulsification. Its typical symptoms are dryness, foreign body sensation, tearing, burning, etc. The auxiliary examination shortened tear break-up time (BUT) and corneal fluorescent staining ( FL) positivity main diagnostic basis. Artificial tears, non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs other topical drops commonly used in clinical treatment. In recent years, internal external treatment traditional Chinese medicine has been quite effective alleviating treating dry surgery, especially moderate to severe chronic eye. pathogenesis progress Western treatments years reviewed as follows.

The transition from regulated to dysregulated parainflammation is a new concept that needs be elucidated clarify the pathogenesis of dry eye disease (DED). This review summarizes recent evidence about mechanisms could lead parainflammation, proposing hypothesis correlate this process with progression chronic inflammation. A group European experts on DED participated in roundtable discuss role most common ocular diseases regard DED. Starting contents, narrative was conducted through PubMed search based main topics discussed, namely: dysfunctional tear film lipid and mucin alterations, cortisol. Parainflammation involved different pathologies characterized by involvement immune system complement factors. In DED, continuous persistent insults are responsible for qualitative quantitative alteration components film. addition, other contributing factors have recently been described, such as reduction cortisol synthesis corneal epithelial cells. altered condition leads excessive macrophage activity, releasing cytokines adhesion molecules, losing tissue homeostasis, possibly progressing Literature supports crucial its usefulness improving diagnosis treatment At same time, further investigations necessary better define functional including surface than

The aim of this study is to survey the effectiveness preservative-free artificial tears containing hyaluronic acid (HA) on post-cataract surgery dry eye disease (DED) prevention. A retrospective cohort was performed, and patients that received cataract surgeries were divided into either an HA group or non-HA depending tear they used. total 37 74 eyes enrolled groups, respectively, after selection. primary outcomes are postoperative superficial keratitis multiple (>3) DED symptoms. generalized linear model utilized calculate adjusted odds ratio (aOR) 95% confidence interval (CI) between two groups. There 10 2 episodes in group, demonstrated a significantly lower incidence (

In this study, we aimed to investigate the effect of different hyaluronic acid (HA)-containing artificial tears on dry eye disease (DED) treatment in combination with intense pulsed light (IPL) therapy. A retrospective cohort study was conducted, and participants received IPL therapy HA-containing tears. There were 42 40 eyes 0.10% 0.15% HA groups after selection, respectively. The main outcomes postoperative non-invasive tear break-up time (NITBUT), Schirmer II test results, ocular surface stain, numbers DED-related symptoms. generalized linear model utilized produce adjusted odds ratio (aOR) 95% confidence interval (CI) between groups. At three-month follow-up, NITBUT significantly higher group (p = 0.023), recovery also better compared 0.039). multiple symptoms correlated no DED symptom improvement both (both p < 0.05), while low pre-treatment marginally related 0.047). result (all 0.05). conclusion, application revealed similar effects for DED.

Purpose: An innovative eyedrop formulation based on a combination of 0.2% hyaluronic acid and 0.001% hydrocortisone sodium phosphate (Idroflog®, Alfa Intes, Italy; HAC eyedrops) was granted European Patent in 2016 has been available the market since 2019 Europe other countries around world. eyedrops aim to synergize moisturizing effects with mild anti-inflammatory properties low-dose hydrocortisone, offering more effective safer alternative for treating dry eye disease (DED), targeting both tear film instability dysfunctional para-inflammation. The activity explored different post-marketing clinical trials, addition preclinical studies. In this narrative review, we evidence use management para-inflammation DED patients provide comprehensive overview efficacy safety data related medical device routine practice. Methods: A literature search involving treatment conducted using PubMed/MEDLINE, considering only original research articles published English, without time restrictions. Results: One four papers were retrieved. Preclinical suggests that is able control expression inflammatory markers, this, together hydrating lubricating acid, leads improvements signs, such as volume stability film. results trials demonstrate are improve signs symptoms low-dosage can be helpful preventing progression chronic stages DED. Conclusions: represent promising therapeutic strategy offer valuable armamentarium treatments
