The monitoring report on progress towards the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) in a global context involves large number of actors as it represents probably biggest change that our society is implementing. Actions at all levels, from local, regional and national to aggregation multiple countries (e.g. EU 27) are needed achieve sustainable future. This work focuses perspective (Italy) where multi-criteria decision analysis (MCDA) used measure current performance. A sustainability score for each region calculated set 175 indicators contained 17 SDGs. Additionally, scores disaggregated along three pillars - social (1-5, 10, 16, 17), environmental (6, 13-15) economic (7-9, 11, 12). results highlight positive performance northern regions and, particular, Trentino Alto Adige, which ranks first two considered scenarios. In addition, relevance territorial specificities emerges individual SDGs shows different leading regions. It noteworthy sub-group southern regions, contrast sub-groups. Evidently, policy actions reduce long-lasting North/South divide-yet highlighted heterogeneous dimensions calls well targeted measures necessary regain competitiveness European level, without compromising with sustainability.

Abstract Nowadays, to remain competitive, manufacturing companies must address the Industry 4.0 paradigm, particularly cyber-physical system (CPS) revolution, following sustainable challenges. Digital innovation hubs (DIHs), as ecosystems that provide technical knowhow, experimental skills, and specialist knowledge, are progressively gaining a strategic role in supporting such transition, especially European small medium enterprises (SMEs). Several projects have been funded by Commission support growth action of DIHs. However, which among four main functionalities (networking, skills training, test before investing, access funding) each DIH is capable addressing its daily still unclear. Thus, it important configure service portfolios DIHs (i.e. set services can based on characterising assets, capabilities). In this paper, data-driven business–ecosystem–skills–technology (D-BEST) reference model proposed then tested through survey. The triggers identification materialisation service-based collaboration processes their portfolio analysis supports modelling Collaborative Networks 4.0, player because ‘by-design’ characteristics. Finally, extended adoption models developed different emerging networks, flexibility interoperability be reached, fostering unique digital platform showcase offer triggering creation multiple inter- intra-communications collaborations stakeholders belonging ecosystems, favouring exchange development joint services.

Therefore, primary aim this study to redefine should govern operations in transition towards a smart industry models. To end, an initial proposal 11 was shared world-class experts (academics practitioners) consensus sought through Delphi Panel. Ten emerged from study, which were evaluated according criteria significance, parsimony, semantic consistency empirical adequacy.
