Abstract Modern supply chains face multifaceted risks due to their intricate nature, often leading disruptions that ripple across the entire chain. However, in era of Industry 4.0, innovative technologies such as additive manufacturing technology (AMT) promise enhance chain sustainability and address environmental concerns. This study investigates potential AMT mitigating (SCRs) through a comprehensive risk assessment framework employing best‐worst method (BWM). Our analysis encompasses 14 SCRs grouped into four SCR categories. Analysis outcome reveals adoption has most significant impact addressing related lead time fluctuations, waste generation, supplier dependency, inventory‐related risks, logistics‐related risks. Notably, emerges robust strategy, significantly impacting these critical areas, thereby aligning with principles sustainability, strategic management, fostering innovation green technologies. The implications this offer invaluable insights for researchers practitioners, emphasizing pivotal role promoting sustainable practices. By understanding leveraging AMT, businesses can strategically navigate challenges while embracing environmentally conscious approaches, driving positive impacts industries.

Purpose Additive Manufacturing technology (AMT) is swiftly gaining prominence to induce automation and innovation in manufacturing systems. It holds immense potential change supply chain dynamics by providing the possibility of printing objects on demand. This study thus formulates analyzes framework incorporate AMT handle spare parts management (SPSCM) capital-intensive industries identifying assessing critical success factors (CSFs). Design/methodology/approach Assessment CSFs performed using novel Grey Causal Modeling method (GCM) with objective making SPSCM resilient efficient. GCM conducts causal analysis taking into consideration cause, effects, objectives, situations. Findings indicate that; Logistics Lead Time (SD4), manufacture (SD3), Management Support (SD11), Risk (SD20) are most prominent factor having a maximum impact when incorporating SPSCM. The results also reveal that performance organizations adopt substantially influenced internal external such as (SD11) Government Regulations (SD16). Research limitations/implications research provides valuable information for getting global equipped post-COVID age, where digital technologies will be fundamental bolstering resilience efficiency. Originality/value proposes assessment Study demonstrates methodological application Modelling technique real case industry India.
