ABSTRACT Melatonin is recognized as a crucial plant hormone due to its significant role in development, growth promotion, enhancing antioxidant activity, and stress resistance. Soybean one of the most important crops globally. To date, three SNAT genes have been cloned Arabidopsis rice; however, only gene, GmSNAT1 , has characterized soybeans. In this study, members GmGNAT family were identified through genome‐wide analysis. Two candidate GmSNAT ( GmSNAT3.1 GmSNAT3.2 ) selected based on phylogenetic tree analysis exhibited highly similar protein tertiary structures ZmSNAT3. Furthermore, functionality these two was confirmed for synthesizing N‐acetylserotonin or melatonin using serotonin 5‐methoxytryptamine substrates vitro. RNA‐seq data indicated that transcription levels downregulated under conditions dehydration salt stress. Additionally, SNAT3 from other leguminous plants homology with genes. This study elucidates soybeans establishes foundation further exploration into physiological functions within legume plants.
