Abstract Aim The aim of the present study was to examine relationship between anemia and basic instrumental activities daily living in older male patients. Methods A total 223 males attending one geriatric outpatient clinic were included this cross-sectional study. Anemia defined as a hemoglobin level below 13 g/dL. Patients' demographic characteristics, comorbidities, comprehensive assessment parameters also recorded. Handgrip strength < 27 kg for accepted dynapenia. Basic Activities Daily Living (BADL) Instrumental (IADL) questionnaires used evaluate functional capacity. Results mean age (standard deviation) participants 80.17 (7.69) years. prevalence patients with 43.9%. There differences anemic non-anemic groups terms presence diabetes mellitus (DM), congestive heart failure (CHF), chronic kidney disease (CKD), malnutrition, dynapenia, depression, BADL IADL scores (all p 0.05). In multivariate analysis, after adjusting all confounding variables except associated reduced After including deterioration did not remain significant group compared (p > Conclusion Close two men had anemia. Anemic higher incidence DM, CHF, CKD, depression dependence both men. However, nutritional status, depressive mood and, specifically muscle strength, important contributors association.

Abstract Background and Objectives Reproductive‐aged women are at an increased risk of developing iron deficiency (ID). We aimed to develop a non‐invasive screening tool identify ID in assess the acceptability screening. Study Design Methods screened (age 18–49 years) community Western Australia. Primary outcome: screening, assessed by feasibility recruiting required sample size ( n = 323). Secondary outcomes: Hand grip strength, finger prick haemoglobin concentration (Hb), prevalence heavy menstrual bleeding (HMB), diet, pregnancy history, blood donation, symptoms history or anaemia (Hb < 120 g/L). Those with Hb <130 g/L no therapy past 2 years were given referrals for venous full count ferritin sampling. Results Across 5 days, we recruited 640 eligible women. Of which, 178 (28%) had HMB 79 (12%) anaemic. Mean age was 33.5 ± 9.2 years, mean 132.4 11.9 g/L. In years: 335 (52%) diagnosed anaemia; 322 (50%) taken oral iron; 210 (33%) intravenous infusion. Vegetarian diets followed 89 (14%); 40 (6%) regular donors; 290 (45%) previous pregnancy. having prior ID/anaemia diagnosis (67% vs. 47%) treatment p 0.022). strength showed positive relationship both (adjusted R 0.012, 0.004) 0.135, 0.005). Conclusion well accepted community, high recruitment rates over short period. Future development may consider incorporating hand assessment.
