Abstract Eveningness, a preference for later sleep and rise times, has been associated with number of negative outcomes in terms both physical mental health. A large body evidence links eveningness to Major Depressive Disorder (MDD). However, date, quantifying this association is limited. The current meta-analysis included 43 effect sizes from total 27,996 participants. Using random-effects model it was demonstrated that small size (Fisher’s Z = − 2.4, 95% CI [− 0.27. 0.21], p < 0.001). Substantial heterogeneity between studies observed, meta-regression analyses demonstrating significant mean age on the diurnal depression. There also potential publication bias as assessed by visual inspection funnel plots Egger’s test. depression magnitude heterogenous. better understanding mechanistic underpinnings linking suitably powered prospective allow causal inference are required.

Importance Observational studies have associated anorexia nervosa with circadian rhythms and sleep traits. However, the direction of causality extent confounding by psychosocial comorbidities in these associations are unknown. Objectives To investigate association between traits through mendelian randomization to test a polygenic risk score (PRS) for disorders clinical biobank. Design, Setting, Participants This genetic study used bidirectional 2-sample summary-level (from Psychiatric Genomics Consortium) chronotype (primarily from UK Biobank). The inverse-variance weighted method, addition other sensitivity approaches, was used. From Mass General Brigham (MGB) Biobank (n = 47 082), PRS calculated each patient were tested prevalent derived electronic health records. Patients European ancestry. Abstract Sleep and mental health are intrinsically intertwined, but not every individual with problems sleeping develops a disorder. This study examined the association among chronotypes, resilience, sleep quality symptoms amongst otherwise healthy individuals. Two hundred adults ( M age = 27.75 ± 5.11, 68% female) no previous diagnosis of illness were recruited filled in set questionnaires measuring quality, depression anxiety symptoms. The findings from path analysis showed that morning type had statistically significant direct effect on range indices. These included better subjective shortened latency, fewer daytime dysfunctions, as well higher level resilience. However, it did significantly affect In addition, indirect effects resilience through mediating Findings this support is associated psychological health, which mediated quality.

Abstract Later sleep timing, circadian preference, and rhythm timing predict worse outcomes across multiple domains, including mood disorders, substance use, impulse control, cognitive function. Disturbed is common among pregnant postpartum women. We examined whether during third trimester of pregnancy predicted symptoms mania, depression, obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD). Fifty-one women with a previous, but not active, episode unipolar or bipolar depression had evaluated recorded wrist actigraphy at 33 weeks gestation 2, 6, 16 postpartum. Circadian phase was measured in subset using salivary dim light melatonin onset (DLMO). divided the sample into “early sleep” “late groups average time gestation, defined by median-split 11:27 p.m. The group reported significantly more manic depressive week 2. Longer angle between DLMO associated 2 6. Delayed this at-risk OCD period. Sleep may be modifiable risk factor for depression.

Morning diurnal preference is associated with reduced risk of major depressive disorder (MDD); however, causality in this association uncertain. To examine the genetically proxied morning depression using mendelian randomization. This 2-sample randomization study used summary-level genetic associations and MDD. Up to 340 loci a meta-analysis UK Biobank 23andMe cohorts were considered as proxies for preference. The effect size these variants was scaled accelerometer-based measurement sleep midpoint. Genetic MDD obtained from genome-wide studies data Psychiatric Genomics Consortium Biobank. inverse-variance weighted method estimate preference, corresponding 1-hour earlier midpoint, risk.Morning earlier, objectively measured midpoint.Risk MDD, including self-reported clinically diagnosed cases, ascertained meta-analyses studies.A total 697 828 individuals (all European ancestry) cohorts; 85 502 had measurements A further 170 756 329 443 control participants data. Chronotype is related to mental health, with evening chronotypes being more susceptible psychological disorders than intermediate and morning types. The present study investigated the relationship between chronotype, sleep quality, social support in Canadian young adults. We surveyed 3160 university students aged 18-35 years. Participants completed Morningness-Eveningness Questionnaire, Hospital Anxiety Depression Scale, Mindful Attention Awareness Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index, Medical Outcomes Study - Social Support Survey. conducted Bonferroni-corrected one-way analyses of covariance post hoc paired comparisons determine aforementioned variables, age sex as covariates. further looked at moderation on chronotype quality. Overall, 55%, 36% 9% participants were classified intermediate, types, respectively. There was a significant difference levels depression, anxiety, types reporting severe symptomology morning-types Morning reported greater overall mindfulness. Evening lowest all support. did not moderate This demonstrates association worse well-being eveningness support, mindfulness Education intervention are warranted help manage potential negative features their circadian rhythm, well cultivate sense

The night eating syndrome (NES) is characterized by excessive food intake during the evening and hours, with 25% of daily being consumed post-dinner, paired ep-isodes nocturnal intake, at a frequency more than twice weekly. NES has been associated misaligned circadian rhythm related to delay in overall increased energy fat consumption. present cross-sectional study aimed assess Greek population evaluate possible links between chronotype. was assessed using Night Eating Questionnaire (NEQ), rhythm, sleep mood were evaluated Sleep, Circadian Rhythms, Mood (SCRAM) questionnaire. A total 533 adults participated study. relatively high prevalence revealed, 8.1% (NEQ ≥ 30) participants reporting experiencing symptoms, depending on NEQ threshold used. Most had intermediate score positively morning chronotype, SCRAM negatively “Good Sleep”. Each point increment depression 6% higher odds NES. early identification gains importance clinical practice, collective effort aiming reduce symptomatology its detrimental health effects.

The aim of this study was to examine the psychometric properties 5-item Turkish Reduced Morningness-Eveningness Questionnaire (rMEQ) for first time. involved 875 university students in an adaptation and validation study. Participants completed rMEQ, MEQ, Depression Anxiety Stress Scale-21 (DASS-21), Insomnia Severity Index (ISI), Barratt Impulsiveness Scale Short Form (BIS-SF), Oxford Happiness (OHQ-SF). factor structure, convergent validity, internal consistency, sensitivity, specificity rMEQ were examined. confirmatory analysis showed that had a one-dimensional structure with good fit indices (χ2/df = 2.94, CFI 0.990, TLI 0.979, RMSEA 0.047, SRMR 0.019). There significantly strong correlation between MEQ. In addition, we found weak DASS-21, ISI, BIS-SF, OHQ-SF. consistency coefficients Cronbach's α 0.706 McDonald's ω 0.740. sensitivity 83.3%–92.7% morning types 86.3%–87.3% evening types. has adequate can be used assess individual's chronotype.
