Flexible organic crystals represent a novel class of smart materials that open many opportunities for optical applications. While it has been established elastic or plastic deformation slender molecular can be commonly induced by external intervention, grow in bent curled shapes naturally are rarely reported. This study introduces an extraordinarily flexible crystalline fibrous material, (Z)-3-(2,3-dichloropyridin-4-yl)-2-(3,5-dimethylphenyl)acrylonitrile (DPA), crystallizes both as straight and crystals. Crystals DPA easily obtained from solution either long fibers to various extent, sometimes even closed into loop. The mechanically applying force photochemically exposure ultraviolet light. polar capable highly efficient second harmonic generation (SHG) with respective intensities 2.03 ± 0.15 1.52 0.12 times (equivalent strain ≈ 1%) urea. Curling during crystal growth provides direct access curved SHG-active waveguiding elements, such ring resonators, thereby circumventing the necessity manual bending, which is usually not readily scalable. work highlights unconventional properties capabilities bring global space their potential applications shape-conforming, nonlinear materials.
